5 gozotoday | FRIDAY • 10 JULY 2026 NEWS Gozo Channel appoints new CEO and first female chairperson RONALD Sultana has been ap- pointed as the new chief exec- utive officer of Gozo Channel Operations Ltd, while Marlene Cini has been chosen as the company's first female chair- person, the Gozo Ministry an- nounced. In a statement issued on Fri- day, the ministry said Sultana's appointment as CEO marks a significant transition for one of Gozo's most strategic entities, at a time when it faces chal- lenges to modernise its fleet and upgrade its digital servic- es. Sultana has served as the di- rector responsible for Tourism and Economic Development within the Gozo Ministry since 2019, during which Gozo re- corded significant growth in tourism and investment. The ministry said Sultana's insight into Gozo's tourism sector places him in a strong position to lead the company through these changes. Marlene Cini is a lawyer with experience in public adminis- tration, legal affairs, corporate governance, and leadership. She has also held a number of senior governance roles, including Board Secretary of Gozo Channel Ltd, Board Sec- retary of the Gozo Regional Development Authority, and Deputy Head of the Maltese Delegation to the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe. The ministry said connectivi- ty will be a key priority during this legislative term, with sig- nificant investments planned in Gozo Channel, Mġarr Har- bour, and Xewkija Airfield. It added that efforts will also be made to upgrade digital plat- forms, including ticketing sys- tems and marketing channels. The statement concluded by thanking former Gozo Chan- nel Ltd Chairman Joe Cordi- na for his work and service to the company over the past few years.
