My essentials JULIENNE RESTALL 26, theatre maker Hi there! I'm Julienne, a 26-year-old theatre-maker, business owner of STESSi (@stessishoots) and podcaster behind The Get-Cast Podcast (@getcastpod) based between Malta, Scotland and Dubai. I mostly love making work in collaborative ensembles and started out professionally with The New Victorians Company, performing in their show MARA when I was 17. 1. Book 2.TV 3.TV 4. Music 5. Place I like aesthetically-driven music nowadays. Basically, if it's got a great beat that I can go hard to, I'll take that over a profound love song any day. I'm funny because I can listen to the same song 100 times, so really and tru- ly I love older Calvin Harris songs for example, and have a running theory that 2012 is objectively the best year for music in my lifetime. There's a small UK DJ called George Reid I'm really into, if that helps? But as an artist I was pretty obsessed with Stro- mae growing up. Did I men- tion I love rap? THE rehearsal room is my happy place. It's an adapt- able space, and can take the form of a research and development in London, a back room at Teatru Ma- noel or my bedroom in Scotland when I'm drilling lines for a self-tape. I love the creation process and seeing people come togeth- er to gel ideas in the room— it's the best part of my job. Otherwise, without being too mushy, snuggled on a sofa anywhere in the world next to my partner is what life is truly about! I'M definitely more of an audiobook consumer. Most recently I listened to The 10x Rule by Grant Car- done which I would recom- mend to literally everyone. I struggle with 'scarcity' as my default mindset and he's great at drumming in- to your subconscious to go big or go home. And then go even bigger. It could have just been the fact that he's a shouty Southerner, but I found it very empowering! Otherwise, I've been in the thick of reading, analysing and re-reading 5SUBIEN. COM which is the play I'm currently directing as part of Kampusajf. RECENTLY my partner and I watched The Invite at the cinema. We love going there together on dates. The film was masterful at creating pal- pable, infectious tension that you specifically feel when you have to have a hard conversa- tion with a significant other. The casting was also amaz- ing, so I'd definitely recom- mend to any couple! YOUTUBE has long been my guiltiest pleasure. I'm currently consuming quite a lot of Alex Hormozi's busi- ness-scaling content as it's something I'm interested in applying to my own busi- ness STESSi, but if I'm being totally honest, any random video that ranks things, I'm super into. Ranking the best blind box, ranking the best chocolate, saying yes to the dress… I love to consume rubbish in my downtime for better, or for worse Compiled by Laura Calleja suggestions by email lcalleja@mediatoday.com 4 5 1 MaltaToday is supported by Arts Council Malta 4 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 2 AUGUST 2026 ALMANAC 3 2
