XAGĦRA will commemorate Victory Day with a programme of religious and civic events, including historical re-enact- ments of the Great Siege of 1565 and Malta's wartime ex- perience during the Second World War. The commemorations will begin at 9am with a concele- brated Mass and the singing of the Te Deum at the Basilica of the Nativity of Our Lady in Xagħra. The official opening cere- mony will get underway at 10:30am in Victory Square, with an address by Xagħra mayor Victor Curmi. The Xagħra Historical Re-en- actment Organisation will then present a re-enactment of the Great Siege of 1565, followed by a musical display by the Malta Police Force Band. Archpriest Daniel Sultana will also address those gathered. The programme will subse- quently turn to Malta's more recent history, with the Xagħra Historical Re-enactment Or- ganisation staging a re-enact- ment focusing on the Second World War and Malta's war- time experience in 1943. The Malta Police Force Band will perform before the arrival of an Armed Forces of Malta Honour Guard. The ceremony will include the sounding of the Last Post, a minute of silence and the Rev- eille. The commemorations will conclude with the laying of wreaths, accompanied by mu- sical selections from the police band, before the Maltese Na- tional Anthem is performed.
