My essentials CARMEN BUSUTTIL 65, artist From a very young age, I was always creative, mainly through textile crafts. At the age of 53, I discovered drawing, something never imagined I could do, and it became my passion. Art brings me harmony, in painting, research and different approaches, while exhibitions in Malta and abroad, including Fresco and Graffito murals in Italy, have enriched my journey. 1. Book 2. Film 3. Internet 4. Music 5. Place I Love Maltese music in gen- eral, especially folklore such as l-għana tal-fatt, and Mal- tese songs that explore so- cial themes and memories. To mention two out of my favourites; Mill-Għajnejn ta' tifla, by Corazon Mizzi and Sieħbi fil-Cupboard tal-Kċi- na by Walter Micallef. I also look forward to the annual festival l-Għanja tal-Poplu, where many of these songs continues to be performed and enjoyed. ONE of my favourite plac- es in Malta is Dingli cliffs, especially during the win- ter months, where I enjoy a long walk taking in breath- taking panoramic views of the cliffs and the sea. I love being surrounded by nature and the feeling of peace and freedom it gives me. I also enjoy travelling, particularly to places with cultures and traditions that are different from our own. Meeting people and experi- encing different ways of life. COLOUR by Victoria Finlay, about Natural history of the palette, brings together art history, travel writing and natural and cultural histo- ry, exploring the origins of pigments and dyes. I loved the book, well researched and filled with unusual and fascinating stories about the colours we use. It was an enjoyable and inspiring read, especially for anyone interested in painting and natural materials, helping the reader develop a deeper appreciation of the physical, historical, and cultural sto- ries hidden within colour. THE 5th Quarter (2010), star- ring Aidan Quinn and Andie McDowell, it's emotional and inspiring film based on a true story of a heartbreaking loss. It's a powerful story of fami- ly determination and finding the strength to carry on after tragedy. It also highlights the importance of Organ dona- tion, showing how, even in the midst of immense grief, the gift of donating a loved one's organs can give others a second chance to life. I love watching sea documen- taries, I am fascinated by the underwater world and the incredible life it holds. One documentary that caught my attention is The Big Blue – Ocean series from Down Under. It gives a beautiful in- sight into Australia's oceans, revealing colourful marine life, coral reefs and the hid- den beauty beneath the sur- face. These documentaries make me appreciate more the diversity and fragility of our oceans.
