55 Sport maltatoday, SUNDAY, 22 SEPTEMBER 2013 CRICKET Sharks put bite into Panthers ON Saturday the Sharks and the Panthers played in a friendly thirty over game. The Panthers batted first and were keen to accumulate a good run rate. Both teams were ready for each other. Unfortunately the Panthers left their roar and claws at home. They were bowled out for 87 runs which included seventeen extras. Puneet Gupta was the top scorer with eighteen runs, Joy Ghoseroy made seventeen runs, Shah Nawaz thirteen runs, Vinod Ramakrishna seven runs, Hartoon Majeed five runs, Nowell Khosla and Wsaeem Abbas four runs each , Zubair Raja two runs and three other batsmen did not bother the scorer at all. One must mention that the Sharks had a good opening attack in Robert Meintjes and Chris Riordan who took a wicket each as did John Prior. Andy Naudi took two wickets. The pick of the bowlers was Sam Aquilina who baffled the batsmen taking an incredible five wickets. In reply the Sharks took sixteen overs to reach their target. They had a great start from Simon Lavendar (thirty six runs which included four boundaries) and Matt McKeogh (twenty nine runs not out). John Prior made six runs, Malcolm Crabbe seven runs, John Meintjes five not out and their were five extras. For the Panthers Haroon Majeed, Zubair Raja and Puneet Gupta took a wicket each. It was a disappointing game for the Panthers who will be looking to avenge this defeat the next time round. Next Saturday the Marsa C.C will be involved in a mini tournament between a team from England – Follies Farm Old Spots C.C who will be on their second tour, their previous tour was in 2001, and Italy – Milan C.C who will be on their sixth tour, previous tours were in 1997,2001,2006,2009 and 2011. On Saturday morning from 9:00 till 10:30am , the Sunoco Cricket Academy/Nursery will be held.
