Events 35 maltatoday, Sunday, 11 May 2014 Vodafone Malta recently held a health and safety workshop for sup- pliers, showing their continuous commitment to the health, safety and well-being of customers, em- ployees, contractors and the com- munity at large. "as a company, Vodafone Malta has always thrived to be the best and to achieve the highest stand- ards in health and safety is part of our commitment towards the Maltese community," said amanda nelson, Ceo of Vodafone Malta. "failing to follow basic health and safety standards leads our people, the people we work with and the people exposed to our activities be- ing seriously injured. Vodafone has a list of 'absolute rules' that every- one need to adhere to in order to protect lives and through this work- shop we wish to show everyone how we do so and how seriously we take health and safety at the workplace." during the workshop, anna de Vincentis, Head of SCM at Vodafone Malta gave a clear insight on Voda- fone's risk assessment approach and how Vodafone undertakes the tran- sit of suppliers towards a higher lev- el of health and safety seriously. deborah Clements, Vodafone Group Health, Safety and Wellbe- ing Manager discussed the health and safety challenges Vodafone was facing globally vis-à-vis its ob- jective to bring down health and safety incidents to zero. She men- tioned that an area of concern less spoken about in the telecommuni- cations business is vehicle related incidents involving suppliers and employees alike and emphasised the importance of remaining vigi- lant to health and safety practices at all times. Clinton Cachia from the occu- pational Health and Safety act was invited as a speaker to the work- shop and defined accidents at work using case studies drawn from his experiences, subsequently clariying the legal health and safety obliga- tions and duties of an employer. He also explained the reporting proc- ess employees had to uphold in case of an accident at their place of work and concluded with a summary of benefits employers could derive from sound health and safety prac- tices. other speakers, dr. Julienne Por- telli demajo, occupational Health & Safety case law expert and Les- lie Spiteri, Technology operations Manager at Vodafone Malta dis- cussed the highlights of Maltese employment law vis-à-vis health and safety practises and obligations and Vodafone's willingness to sup- port subcontractors in the journey towards higher health and safety maturity for the benefit of the or- ganisation and society alike. ROCS Group launch third Inglot outlet in Libya Vodafone Malta leads the way in health and safety RoCS Group, as the official fran- chiser of Inglot in Malta, Libya and Yemen, has recently launched its third outlet – this time round in Benghazi. following the success enjoyed by the Inglot outlets in Malta and Tripoli – which opened in 2007 and 2012 respectively – RoCS Group has now launched its third outlet in the north african country. "after the opening of our second Inglot outlet in Libya's capital, it felt natural that we should open another one in the country's second biggest city," says Colin aquilina, RoCS Group's Head of finance and Business development. a f lourishing economic hub in both the arab world as well as in the Mediterranean, Benghazi has recently experienced a revival and is now home to some of the world's top brands. "ever since the arab Spring, Beng- hazi – just like other cities around the country – has had a lot to deal with, but business is getting back on track and the city is slowly f lourish- ing once again," explains aquilina. "Libya, as a whole, is a fantastic emerging market and together with our dear friend and Libyan partner abdurazzaq elmanfi, we are cur- rently working on opening another two outlets one in Tripoli and an- other one in a city yet to be con- firmed within end of year, which will bring the total number of out- lets in Libya to five." Alter- natively, email the team directly at manager@inglotmalta.com or visit the Facebook page at Inglot Malta Banif presents Inspire with €3,000 at 'It's A Knockout' on a day filled with laughs, thrills and plent y of spills, five teams comprised of Banif Bank employ- ees, families and friends took part in Inspire's annual 'It's a Knock- out' contest. The event involved a number of inf latable obstacle courses and water-based challenges and gave the participants the chance to exhibit their speed, balance and, most importantly, teamwork! The weather may have been on the cooler side but the fires of compe- tition burned bright as 'The Spe- cial ones' fought off the spirited efforts of other teams to emerge triumphant. In realit y there were no losers as Banif Bank joined other compa- nies in donating funds to Inspire – the foundation for inclusion that provides therapeutic, edu- cational and leisure services to persons with disabilities in Mal- ta and Gozo. The sum of €3,000 was donated by the Bank, with a strong contribution from its team of employees who donated a sub- stantial sum through fundrais- ers. overall it was a fun-packed event for a truly exceptional cause, and big congratulations go out to all the participants (some of whom are likely still sporting a few knocks and bruises after the festivities) and to Inspire for organising this memorable event year after year.
