Customers are encouraged to participate in an online compe- tition and to learn more about the development of broadband in Malta and internationally through dedi- cated websites. "This year's theme for WTISD is "Broadband for Sustainable Devel- opment" and as Malta's broadband leader, Melita is taking the initiative to promote the potential of broad- band Internet to support cultural and economic growth in our socie- ty," commented Michael Darmanin, Director of Marketing at Melita. The purpose of World Telecom- munication and Information Society Day (WTISD) is to help raise aware- ness of the possibilities that the use of the Internet and other informa- tion and communication technolo- gies (ICT) can bring to societies and economies, as well as of ways to bridge the digital divide. This year WTISD will be celebrated on Friday 16 May. Amanda Stitt and Ajay Dayal, Investment Direc- tors at Legg Mason, spoke about Legg Mason's vision on how advis- ers can best build income for their clients from both fixed income and equity solutions. They also gave examples on how their views are incorporated in funds offered by Legg Mason. Legg Mason is one of the world's largest asset managers with over $700bn under management as of 31 March 2014. Legg Mason launched into the Maltese market last September through local rep- resentative Jesmond Mizzi Finan- cial Advisors Ltd. In April, Legg Mason also launched its latest Global In- vestment Survey that, amongst other points, highlighted the im- portance globally for investors to achieve stronger returns on income-producing investments. It demonstrated a global income expectation gap of 3.3% (the dif- ference between % return sought on income-producing invest- ments (9.5%) and percentage re- turn earned on income-producing investments (6.2%)) confirming a need for better income-producing solutions. The Q&A session will be led by Etienne Borg Cardona, Director of MISCO Directors Network, who will also moderate the event and the audi- ence. Chris Deering is best known for his leadership as CEO and Presi- dent of Sony Computer Entertain- ment Europe from inception in 1995 through 2005 where he helped en- gineer the sale of over 100 million PlayStation Consoles and over 750 million game discs. From 2006 to 2010 he was Chairman of Codemas- ters Games where he led their For- mula 1 initiative. An industry spokesperson for European games development and publishing, his international busi- ness career spans 3 decades with McKinsey, Gillette, Atari, and as COO of Columbia Pictures' In- ternational Video business before heading PlayStation. In 2003, Deer- ing was awarded a special BAFTA fellowship award for lifetime serv- ice to the games industry. He was Chairman of the Edinburgh Inter- active Festival (2006-2010) and is currently active in pro bono work with startups in the UK and serves as Malta's Special Envoy for games. "Through the current series of MISCO Directors Network events, we aims at providing a platform for insight on various topics related to technology and society, HR skills for today's business world, the link between business and innovation in today's world, internet and online privacy, social marketing trends as well as generating thoughts on where businesses are heading," says Maria Zahra from MISCO Direc- tors Network. "As such, this event will also be an opportunity to understand the lat- est trends in society and how these are being influenced by develop- ments in technology. The event will take place at Pal- azzo De Piro, Mdina and will kick off with a finger buffet, followed by the Q&A session. The event starts at noon. The fee for the event is €90 inclusive of VAT.
