The figures, provided by global automotive mar- ket consulting specialists, Focus2- Move, show worldwide sales of the CR-V in the quarter totalled 165,017, up from 161,837 for the same period in 2013. The top 50 chart of the world's best-selling cars puts the CR-V at number eleven for the quarter, above competitors including the Toyota RAV4, Volkswagen Tiguan and Nis- san Qashqai. Further analysis points to similar success during quarter two, with the CR-V remaining the world's most popular SUV during May 2014, at number eight in the monthly chart with sales of 63,241; even topping sales of the world's best-selling small car of May, the Ford Fiesta. Total year to date unit sales of CR-V globally at the end of May were 286,685. Much of the success of the CR-V on the global stage can be attributed to the original concept of the car which it continues to assert – the optimum balance between the efficiency and performance of a saloon, and the practicality, versatility and safety of an SUV. Sales of the CR-V in Europe have been further boosted in recent months by the introduction of the 1.6 i-DTEC model, addressing the region's increasing demand for low emission diesel engines and the growing trend towards two-wheel drive SUVs. Two-wheel drive models now make up more than a quarter of Europe's C-SUV market. Honda CR-V revealed as the world's best- selling SUV in first quarter of 2014
