The opening concert will feature the highly acclaimed International Organist residing in Malta Wayne Marshall, on the newly restored organ of the St.Paul's Pro-Anglican Cathedral. Other famous organists, will be visiting from Italy, Sicily, Holland, Norway, Russia and Estonia. The entrance for the concerts will be free of charge. SEPTEMBER 2-7 Malta International Musical Bands Festival International festival of bands, majorettes group, marching band, folk groups, street bands and piper bands. Featuring three parades, of half day each, in most of the important towns on the island, together with the presence of the local authorities. The following group categories are eligible to participate: bands (marching, street, pipe and drum) folk groups, f lag-throwing groups, groups of majorettes, and historical groups. VISUAL ARTS SEPTEMBER 1-7 Valletta International Visual Arts Festival International visual arts festival taking place at St James Cavalier, Valletta which will incorporate exhibitions and discussions on contemporary visual art and feature works and talks by both local and international performers. VIVA 2014 will feature work from locally and internationally reknown artists including Mieke Bal, Democracia, Austin Camilleri and JP Azzopardi amongst others. VIVA will also bring to the fore local young emerging artists through Divergent Thinkers - an exhibition which presents contemporary artistic practices by young Maltese artists that explore divergent thinking. This being its first edition, VIVA will also incorporate a Curatorial School. More information: http://www. viva.org.mt. SEPTEMBER 12-26 Ex Voto – Art exhibition Exhibition of works by Ryan Falzon at the Maritime Museum in Birgu. All the paintings and lino prints to be presented, created specifically for the exhibition, revolve around Catholic iconography, the conditions of living on an island, the relation to the sea, and the continental city as the islanders' utopia. SEPTEMBER 13 Eros Tribute band and concert Eros Ramazzotti Tribute Concert inaugurating the opening of the new restaurant and lounge, The Italian Job, at Baystreet, St Julian's. Taking place at Baystreet Level 0 from 21:30. Entrance is free. MISC EVENTS SEPTEMBER 11-14 Maritime Senglea International Festival Sixth edition of the cultural festival at Senglea, which will this year be part of a EU-funded project under Network of Twinned Partners 'Revival of Old Towns and Cities'. Consisiting of workshops with international entities, panel discussions, an arts fair; concluding with a day of fishing competitions and 'Il-Gostra'. For more information log on to: http://www. maritimesenglea.com/. SEPTERMBER 12 Hospice Midnight Walk Midnight walk in aid of Malta Hospice patients and their families. There will be two routes to choose from, both of which will start at Bugibba Square at 22:30. Transport will be provided from Mosta Square to Bugibba Square leaving at 21:00 sharp. Registration fee is at €10 (free for children up to 8 years). Registration form can be downloaded from http:// hospicemalta.org/wp-content/ WHAT'S ON WHAT'S ON TODAY The Delicata Wine Festival – Gozo edition The Delicata Wine Festival will continue in Nadur, Gozo. The festival will open at 19:00 and the last wines will be served at 23:30 before closing at midnight. People who wish to try the wines need only purchase a souvenir wine glass for €12.00, which is theirs to keep. A shuttle service will be available between Nadur and the Mgarr ferries. The price of a return shuttle bus ticket is €2.00 per person. The Bieganski Art Festival Last day of the month-long festival at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta, commemorating 100 years from the outbreak of WWI and celebrating art in all its forms. The festival would feature: 75 local and foreign artists with paintings depicting WWI 47 local and foreign artists, exhibiting their works, 120 paintings from the Bieganski collection Master Artist Ray Pitre 9x7 ft collection 80 sketches and painting from French trench artist Galey. The Malta International Theatre Festival The MDC International Theatre Festival which will be held at the Greek Theatre within the precincts of Maria Regina Girls' Seconday in Blata l-Bajda, is being launched to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the official establishment of the Malta Drama Centre as the national performing arts school under the Department of Education. Tickets for one night are selling at €15 while a block ticket for both weekends (one night on each weekend) are available at €25 and include a free glass of wine.
