Events 29 maltatoday, Sunday, 15 March 2015 On its 69th year of operation, Vas- sallo Group has kept its yearly calendar event to organize the Women's day lunch which this year was organized on the 10 March. The event was hosted by Vassallo's Group Chairman, Mr Nazzareno Vassallo. This year's guest of hon- our was Michelle Muscat. Present for the event were the women di- rectors, the women bankers, con- sultants and female employees who work within the Group and its sub- sidiary companies. As per the International Women's day Motto, this year's team was "Make it Happen". Careamalta's C.E.O Natalie Briffa Farrugia said that she witnesses on a daily basis the strong spirit of the women at work and their commitment towards giving their best in everything. Her dream is that one day, society will stop seeing persons in relation to their gender, disabilities, religion or race but start seeing people as individuals with same rights: worth of respect, dignity and equal oppor- tunities. Nazzareno Vassallo, Chairman of Vassallo Group thanked all the employees who attended the lunch and praised them for the excellent job and the dedication they have towards the company. "Vassallo Group has always strongly believed in the contribution women can give to society and today I am proud to say that, 59% of the Group's work- force amounting to a total of 1700 are women, some of whom are lead- ing the way in different sectors of our business," said Vassallo. Michelle Muscat spoke about the importance that every woman should be given in our society. She said that with today's help and in- centives by the Maltese Govern- ment, especially by offering free child care services, women can manage to balance their life by be- ing working mothers and at the same time enjoying their free time with their loved ones. The aim behind such event is for the company to show its apprecia- tion by thanking all the female em- ployees for the dedication, passion and will power they offer towards their respective jobs. It is also an occasion, were the company brings together various employees from different sectors in order to organ- ize a social activity on a yearly basis whereby the latter can meet up and socialize in a relaxed environment. Following the recent launch of the very well received Online Retire- ment Planning Tool, MSV Life has now made available another 3 online calculators to help existing and pro- spective customers plan for their fu- ture. The calculators are available at a click of a button on MSV Life's website, and are very easy to use. Have you ever wondered what you need to do to be able to go on that long holiday, buy a new car, or get started with your home improve- ments? The MSV Monthly Savings Calculator provides customers with an indication of the amount they would need to save up on a monthly basis to reach a specific financial goal over a period of time. The first step in planning our fi- nances is setting a monthly budget. It is only when one realises where one's hard earned salary is going can one start to make plans for the future. With this in mind MSV has designed the Monthly Budget Cal- culator, which helps customers plan their month by separating income, expenses and other monthly outgo- ings. The result will show what one's disposable income will be, which means that customers can then properly plan how to save and spend what is left. Few people consider how their family would manage without the breadwinner. One way of protecting one's loved ones and increasing the financial security of the family is to secure an immediate tax free lump sum to dependents in the event of the death of the breadwinner. The MSV Life Insurance Calcula- tor guides customers on how much life protection they will need to se- cure the financial well-being of their family in the event of the early death of the breadwinner. Each of the calculators is designed to be simple to use, giving customers instant feedback which can also be customised. MSV's online calcula- tors can be accessed at the website of MSV Life p.l.c. www.msvlife.com. COM 020315 Vassallo Group Celebrates Women's Day in style MSV Life launches three free financial calculators to help customers plan their future Take a walk down Wied il-Luq at Buskett this afternoon and amidst the green-canopied trees you'll notice some with no foliage at all, indeed they stand out because of their naked whiteness. As we all learned in science at school, these would be the deciduous trees that shed their leaves in autumn. Now most trees in Malta are evergreen, as our winters aren't hard on trees (no snow, frost, frozen ground, etc.). Still, we do get some deciduous species and one of these is the White Poplar (M: Luq), which gave its name to the valley at Buskett. It stands out because of its silver bark that give the scene a Tolkienesque hue. Poplars love damp valleys with streams so they're not too common in generally bone-dry Malta. But in places like Buskett, Wied Qlejgħa, Fiddien and Girgenti, lines of White Poplar indicate the course of the valley. These trees are beautiful even when leafless but just as fascinating in leaf. Their large leaves are dark green above and velvety white underneath, and their long, thin, flexible stalks shiver at the slightest breeze. Imagine the flickering effect when a little wind blows through a full-canopied White Poplar. But you'll have to wait a month or so for that. NOTE: 27 days to the spring hunting referendum. Malta is the only European country where spring hunting for Turtle dove and Quail takes place as a leisure pursuit. In other countries, governments may grant a limited licence to kill a specified number of birds for reasons such as essential pest control. however, this is always done after careful consideration, and never as a leisure pursuit.
