The Overlooked Performance exhibition is both an artistic expression and a document to the skin beneath the face of an historic architectural intervention and to the temporality of man at his workplace. MARCH 20, 21 Ma Rridx Immur WHAT'S ON TODAY In Guardia Parade Military re-enactment at Fort St Elmo Place, Valletta at 11:00. The re- enactment portrays the inspection of the fort and its garrison by the Grand Bailiff of the Order of the Knights of St John in charge of military affairs. Entrance is at €7 (adults) and €3 (children and young adults). L'Elisir d'Amore Gaetano Donizetti's comic opera in two acts at the Manoel Theatre, Valletta at 19:30. Featuring the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, directed by Denise Mulholland and conducted by Philip Walsh. Featuring works by Raphael Vella, Elisa Von Brockdorff, Adrian Abela, Ritty Tacsum, Goghi&Goghi collective, Gabriele Grones, Jacopo Dimastrogiovanni, Elia Nadie and Debora Fella. The idea behind Afterselfie was conceived at the 2014 edition of the Curatorial School at VIVA (the Valletta International Visual Art Festival), one of the Valletta 2018 Foundation's projects from its diverse Cultural Programme. Afterselfie is, first and foremost, a cultural exchange between Malta and Italy as a number of Maltese and Italian artists will be showcasing their work in both countries. After being displayed at St James Cavalier, the exhibition will then move to Palazzo Trentini in Trento, Italy and will run from May 15 to 31. Love's Labour's Won Live screening of the Royal Shakespeare Company production at St James Cavalier, Valletta at 18:30. Christopher Luscombe directs the second of Shakespeare's matching pair of comedies that rejoice in our capacity to find love in the most unlikely places. Better known as Much Ado About Nothing, the play is performed under the title Love's Labour's Won, a name possibly attributed to it during Shakespeare's lifetime. Tickets are at €12, €10 and €8. A Stradivarius Among Us A one-off concert at St Paul's Anglican Pro-Cathedral, Valletta at 20:30 that will feature the world- renowned Stradivarius player Mro Matteo Fedeli on the Antonio Stradivari 1715 'ex Bazzini – De Vito' together with the Orchestra d'Archi and the Coro Da Camera, under the direction of Mro Mauro Ivano Benaglia. The evolution of Maltese balconies On March 17 at 19:00, Flimkien għal-Ambjent Aħjar (FAA) will be holding a talk on the origins and development of Maltese Balconies at the Corinthia Palace Hotel, Attard, which will be presented by Adrian Strickland. During this lecture, the audience will discover various facts about how the styles and construction of Maltese balconies evolved through the ages, as well as the origins of the word 'Gallarija' itself. A former TV news cameraman, a territorial soldier and ambassador for Malta in the Netherlands, Adrian Strickland has been researching and documenting Maltese balconies for decades. His talk will feature a 40-year collection of photos illustrating the range and contrasting architectural styles of local balconies, old and new, as well as some surprising modern balcony designs from elsewhere in Europe. Strickland will also be exploring the changes in usage of balconies from their early fortification function to becoming an essential part of everyday life for our grandparents, the changes in modern balcony usage and technology and what the future holds for Maltese balconies.
