MATTHEW VELLA FORMER TV presenter and chair- man of Radio 101 Lou Bondì has been contracted out to give public speaking and presentation skills to employees of the Malta Gaming Au- thority for €6,250. Bondì serves as consultant to the Office of the Prime Minister on a €54,000 contract, excluding VAT, for the Fondazzjoni Celebrazzjoni- jiet Maltin. Bondì is now also carrying out training sessions for a group of 18 employees from the Malta Gam- ing Authority, providing TV, pub- lic speaking and presentation skills training to the employees, includ- ing the chairman and MGA's own spokesperson. Bondì is being paid €312.50 for each person, with the training ses- sions spread out over a period of five days for a total cost of €6,250. The ministry for competitiveness said the payment includes "review- ing of videos, interviews and re- search, which the authority asked him to make in preparation for the said workshops. The training pro- vided to its employees is part of an ongoing organisation-wide training programme aimed at developing the necessary skills, capability and enhance the professionalism of the MGA." The Malta Gaming Authority recently registered a €6 million in- crease in its revenues in 2014 and is expected to see an increase in the number of licences issued, which last year increased by 19% to reach a total of 519. The MGA said these increases were registered after the author- ity underwent a restructuring proc- ess during which it strengthened a number of directorates, including the financial, compliance, regula- tory, legal, research, enforcement and insurance departments. Body washes up on St George's Bay rocks THE corpse of a man washed up on the rocks by the St George's Bay road in St Julian's, early yesterday morning. The man, who the police later con- firmed was a Dutch 23-year-old, was certified dead at the beach club on the bay. Duty Magistrate Miriam Hayman was informed about the case and she has since appointed several ex- perts to assist her in an inquiry. Police investigations are still on- going to determine what led to the man's death. This was the second instance of a dead body being found in the sea, this week. On Friday, the corpse of a 68-year- old man from Hamrun was removed from Dock 1 in Cospicua. The corpse was spotted floating face down by two teenagers who were walking on the promenade. One of the teenagers, 17-year-old Christian Martin, ran to the police station round the corner. Two police officers jumped into the sea to try to save the man but he was already dead, the police said. Foul play was not being suspected. maltatoday, SUNDAY, 10 MAY 2015 News Government keeps Bondì busy with €6,250 contract
