No one was injured in the inci- dent, which is currently the subject of a magisterial inquiry. Customers can therefore avail themselves of the usual high standard of Toyota service and prospective customers may visit the showroom as usual. A company spokesperson said, "We are overwhelmed by the tre- mendous amount of support and solidarity shown by so many of our customers, business partners and also by the public in general, following this unusual incident. Our staff has also been extremely supportive. The group has always striven to develop the best of rela- tions with our customers, our com- munity in Żebbuġ and society in general, and we aspire to foster this approach going forward. Guided by our principles of 'customer first' and 'always a better way', we con- tinue to pursue policies of an open and honest business." In recent years, the group has broadened its operations consid- erably, thereby also expanding its workforce fourfold from around 40 a few years ago. CareMalta organizes Open Day to celebrate Care on an International Scale In July 2014, the Central Bank of Malta and the GRTU Malta Chamber of SMEs agreed to set- up a tailor-made educational pro- gramme for the retail sector. The GRTU, in consultation with the Bank, launched a survey in October 2014 to better assess its members' requirements. From the survey it transpired that only 52% of employees were given gen- eral or specific training in rela- tion to cash handling and dealing with payments. Other issues highlighted in this survey were post-dated cheques, the handling of suspicious coun- terfeit banknotes, shortage or surplus of coins, dishonoured cheques, late payments by debt- ors, and issues at reconciliation stage. The CBM-GRTU Joint Edu- cational Programme is a tailor- made programme that has been developed to address these con- cerns and provide the necessary training and information to as- sist the retail sector. The Pro- gramme's main objectives are: (i) to raise awareness on the risks existing in the areas of counter- feiting and money laundering; (ii) to provide the necessary training to the retailers' employ- ees in the fight against counter- feiting and money laundering thus reducing financial damage/ legal risks; (iii) to inform the retail sector on the use of more efficient pay- ment instruments. The main elements of the Joint Educational Programme are: 1. an 'On-going Educational Programme' which focuses mainly on cash related matters and payment instruments; 2. a 'Certification of Cash Han- dlers Programme' where cash handlers are given professional training and assessed by the Bank's professional banknote ex- perts; 3. various onsite visits and training to large scale retailers (such as supermarkets); 4. providing expert and tech- nical advice on the purchase of banknote authentication devices and on other cash related mat- ters. CareMalta has recently joined forces with the NCF (National Care Forum UK), ACSA (Aged and Community Services Aus- tralia) and the South African Care Forum to celebrate its Care Home Open Day, which took place on 19 June 2015. The main scope behind such an activity was to make a positive noise around the globe and to pass on a very strong message: that care homes can be inspiring places run by special people that really do care. All the nine homes administered by CareMalta, were all open for the general public who had the op- portunity to visit the residents and participate with them in various fun activities such as bingo games, cookery sessions, keep fit sessions, flower arrangement classes, tea parties and many more activities. The residents were also enter- tained with dancing and singing performances by popular Maltese entertainers. The highlight of the Open Day was the opening of Ta' Piju Bocci Club, which was inaugurated on the same day at Casa Arkati in Mosta by the Hon. Justyne Caru- ana, Parliamentary Secretary for Rights of Persons with Disability and Active Aging. CareMalta's C.E.O Natalie Briffa Farrugia, spoke about the im- portance that society should give to our old generation, by visit- ing them as often as possible and participate with them in daily ac- tivities organized by the respec- tive homes. The success of such activities, she said can only be only accomplished with the participa- tion of the residents' families and friends.
