Events 46 maltatoday, Sunday, 16 auguSt 2015 KTM's Robbie Maddison surfs the waves on his motorcycle KTM's very own Robbie Mad- dison, set out to create another world first this summer by rid- ing the world famous waves in Teahupoo, Tahiti on his motor- bike. An expertly modified dirt bike, a boat and a near-death experience while catching a monster wave were some of the features involved in perfecting this crazy stunt. The most important aspect of this feat was perfecting the modifications of his KTM 250 sX dirt bike, with rubber skis and paddles on the back wheel allowing Maddison to ride on the water. "It's not just a standard bike by any means - there's a lot of work that goes into it and every time we sunk the bike, it was like four hours work to rebirth it and get it running again," Robbie 'Mad- do' Maddison explained. "I had these specially-made rubber blocks that were sealed on to the tyre that just allowed me to keep propelling on the water. The height of the ski and where the skis are positioned on the bike is very crucial." In addition, Maddison per- formed the stunt in full moto- cross gear to maintain continui- ty while gaining extra f loatation in the water with the help of a PFD life jacket and helmet with extra foaming. Maddison, perhaps best known as a Guinness world record holder, is no stranger to adrenaline-inducing feats, hav- ing worked as a stunt double for Daniel Craig in skyfall, jump- ing across the Corinth Canal in Greece, back f lipping while jumping Tower Bridge in Lon- don and much more. Australian born Maddison has been a keen surfer since he was eight years old and his under- standing of waves was impera- tive to pulling off his latest stunt. IGaming community, Maltese public invited to attend fundraising sports day A group of volunteers teamed up earlier this year and started work- ing on an upcoming sports day, aiming to raise funds and bring the igaming community in Malta closer to the Maltese public. The event will take place on 19 sep- tember and proceeds will go to Puttinu Cares, Inspire and Remax & Friends Foundation. President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca will be present for the open- ing of the Open sports Day, which will feature a full day of sports and leisure activities at the Mar- sa Athletic Track, Marsa sports Grounds. Malta is home to around 300 gaming companies, employing in excess of a 9,000 strong workforce. Over thirty gaming companies will each field a team of five employees, athletes who will be taking part in a friendly, competitive environment. The event will therefore be an excellent opportunity for the gen- eral public to mingle with people working in the iGaming industry. Besides the traditional running, throwing and jumping events, the sports event will also feature a number of fun activities for C-level executives and other employees from the various gaming depart- ments. The general public is not only encouraged to attend but to also take part in this sports event. Fur- ther details are accessible online at www.maltasportsday.com. MAPFRE among the five largest European non-life insurance companies in 2014 MAPFRE occupies fifth place in the 2014 ranking of the largest European insurance companies in the Non-Life segment, which is compiled annually by FUN- DACIÓN MAPFRE. The premium revenue of the top 10 European Non-Life insurance groups remained stable in 2014 compared with the previous year, with a slight increase of 1.5 percent to €205,537 million. Local insurer MAPFRE Middle- sea is a member of the MAPFRE Group. Market conditions remain highly competitive, which, combined with low interest rates, exchange rate volatility and modest levels of economic growth, results in a moderate growth scenario for the sector. This is the eleventh version of the ranking that FUNDACIÓN MAP- FRE prepares annually, in line with the gross premium volume (direct insurance plus accepted reinsur- ance) that each of the groups re- corded in 2014 for Non-Life busi- ness from all countries that they operate in. Groups whose main line of business is reinsurance are not included. The sum of operating results (be- fore taxes and minority interests) in the Non-Life business for the eight main European insurance groups registered growth of 6.6 percent in 2014. In addition to this ranking, FUNDACIÓN MAPFRE has also published the ranking for total premiums of the main European insurance companies. In this clas- sification, MAPFRE remains in tenth place, with premium volume of 22,401 million euros. In total, the grouping of the ten main in- surance companies generated pre- miums of 449,279 million euros in 2014, an increase of 5.1 percent against the previous year. Prohealth hosts workshop on Galderma products In no other area of aesthetics are there so many different prod- ucts or treatment options avail- able as dermal fillers. Along with botulinum toxin injections, fillers are the bread and butter of most medical aesthetic clinics, with their popularity soaring as public awareness and acceptance of non- surgical enhancement grows. Despite the variety of inject- able fillers available internationally, continuing to grow endlessly, Hy- aluronic Acid fillers still remain by far the most popular dermal fillers with both injecting doctors and pa- tients alike. Global dermatology company Gal- derma, recently launched their latest Hyaluronic Acid based filler range called Emervel in Malta. As a leader in medical dermato- logical solutions, Galderma always strives to innovate, offering physi- cians more options, and patientssu- perior and safer results. With Resty- lane, the first Hyaluronic Acid range of fillerscreated over 15 years ago, Galderma has set the industry's gold standard for dermal fillers. To introduce the Emervel range in Malta and to continue updat- ing local Restylane injectors with the latest techniques, Galderma in collaboration with its local agent Prohealth, invited the internation- ally renowned Plastic Reconstruc- tive & Aesthetic surgeon Mr. Carlo Di Gregorio to Malta to conduct a training workshop. De Gregorio obtained a fellowship in plastic surgery in Canniesburn, scotland and has had extensive pro- fessional experiences in Italy, France and the UsA. He is a member of the sICPRE and of the International Ex- pert Panel on Hyaluronic Acid. His publications include medical book chapters, invited reviews, and nu- merous articles, national and inter- national presentations. The workshop was held at Persona Med-Aesthetic Centre in Ta' Xbiex over a two-day period. Local injector doctors and leading plastic surgeons were provided with in-depth prod- uct training accompanied by key insights into the latest techniques used when injecting Hyaluronic Acid based fillers for rejuvenating, hydrating, and corrective purposes. Great emphasis was made on the importance of a "natural look" ap- proach and outcome at all times. The attendees enjoyed the experi- ences shared and witnessed the latest techniques for impressive lifting and filling capacity of Restylane Perlane (the most used filler in the world) and the fresh, radiant look achieved thanks to the deep hydration of the increasingly popular skinBoosters range. The new Emervel Hyaluronic Acid based provide soft, subtle re- sults andexcellent alternatives for Lip and Cheek Augmentation. Restylane, Emervel, and Restylane skinBoosters all subscribe to the philosophy of creating natural look- ing results. As part of this philoso- phy, Galderma recently launched a new campaign called Proof in Real Life, with the aim of challeng- ing misconceptions that aesthetic treatments create extreme results by proving the subtle results in real life. The Galderma Proof in Real Life campaign launch event saw ten sets of identical twins take part in a unique challenge. One twin from each pair received a bespoke treat- ment plan, which consisted of treat- ments with Restylane fillers, Resty- lane skinboosters, or a combination of both. The twins took part in a live reveal to demonstrate the natural- looking results first-hand and chal- lenge the wide-spread misconcep- tion that aesthetic treatments create extreme results. Coverage, including videos and images of the event are available at www.proofirl.com. Restylane, Emervel and Restylane skinBoosters treatments can be performed at leading plastic sur- geons, and other injecting doctors, as well as at Persona Med-Aesthetic Centre. For details of the doctors offering Restylane, Emervel and Restylane skinboosters treatments please email restylane@prohealth. com.mt Robbie Maddieson riding the sea
