Themes may change from one week to the other MUSIC & THEATRE SEPTEMBER 25, 26 90 Years of Film This year, Malta celebrates a very important milestone in its rich cinematic history with a concert by the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra, under the artistic direction of Maestro Brian Schembri. EXHIBITIONS UNTIL OCTOBER 18 Valletta Streetscapes Collaborative exhibition themed around Valletta, by photographer Jacob Sammut and poet Miriam Calleja, at Palazzo Pereira, Valletta. SEPTEMBER 24-OCTOBER 2 Mostra bibliografica antiquaria – Dante Alighieri To celebrate the 750th anniversary of Dante Alighieri's birth, the National Library of Malta and the Italian Cultural Institute have organized a bibliographic exhibition displaying antique and precious editions of the works of the Supreme Poet at the National Library of Malta, Valletta. The exhibition comprises of some splendid 19th century editions of the Divine Comedy with fine gold bindings and decorated with the famous engravings by French artist and engraver Gustave Doré. On display there will also be some editions of this literary work in English and Maltese. UNTIL SEPTEMBER 27 The Culture of Ageing Collective Exhibition Curated by Lennard Dost and Mare van Koningsveld, this collective exhibition addresses the concept of ageing through the questioning of the role of seniors within societies while also exploring how do these societies react to an ageing population. The exhibit approaches ageing from a Maltese perspective while also relating this perspective with other cultures. Artists taking part in this exhibition include: Adrian Abela, Michael Apted, Femke Bakker, Kristina Borg, Vince Briffa, Gilbert Calleja, Azahara Cerezo, Libia Castro and Ólafur Ólafsson, Louise Hervé and Chloé Maillet, Bettina Hutschek, Trevin Matcek and Ferhat Özgür. Taking place at St James Cavalier, Valletta. OCTOBER 1-31 Valletta Streetscapes Collective art exhibition by B.A. Hons. Art students at Vee Gee Bee, Republic Street, Valletta. Featuring work by Claudia Chircop, Leanne Lewis, Sarah Mifsud and Thea Vella. Opening hours: 09:00 to 13:00; 16:00 to 19:00. OCTOBER 2-31 Dear Younger Me Exhibition of 25 watercolour paintings by Paul Caruana, Palazzo de Piro, Mdina. FESTIVAL SEPTEMBER 25 Science in the City Fourth edition of the festival of science and culture will be taking place around the streets of Valletta from 18:00 to midnight. Featuring experiments, exhibitions, talks, debates, poetry, films, and the performing arts and more. The key attraction this year will be a reproduction of this year's Rosetta landing on Comet 67P. BOOK LAUNCHES SEPTEMBER 24 Jacob: the book launch Launch of the Merlin Publications book Jacob: My Titanium Man at Bottegin Palazzo Xara, Rabat from 19:30. SEPTEMBER 30 Late Prehistory in Malta Launch of the book 'The Late Prehistory of Malta: Essays on Borg In-Nadur and Other Sites' edited by Davide Tanasi and Nicholas C. Vella at the National Museum of Archaeology, Valletta at 18:00. The volume brings together a number of contributions that report on those excavations, providing an exhaustive account of the stratigraphy, the pottery, the lithic assemblages, the bones, and the mollusks. SEPTEMBER 30 Klin u Kapricci Ohra Launch of the new poetry collection by Adrian Grima at St James Cavalier, Valletta at 20:00. Featuring musical accompaniment by Plato's Dream Machine and critical commentary by poet Norbert Bugeja. MISCELLANEOUS SEPTEMBER 24 Cinema Soiree Rooftop movie night at The Palace Hotel, Sliema at 19:30, screening Life of Pi. SEPTEMBER 25-27 Exhibition of niches and statues The Zejtun Local Council in collaboration with the youth organisation ZOEY - Zejtun Organisation to Empower You, will be organising an interesting exhibition of niches and statues that one can find in the streets of Zejtun. The exhibition will be launched on September 25 at 19:30 at the Arts and Crafts Centre, St Gregory's Street, Zejtun. This will be also open during the annual folkloristic activity, Żejt iz-Zejtun, which will be held on September 26 and 27. SEPTEMBER 26, 27 Zejt iz-Zejtun Annual festival celebrating the olive picking season and olive pressing along the streets of Zejtun from 19:30. Featuring the sale of olive oil, exhibition of agricultural tools, live music and more.
