This meant that the overall winners of this event were Cot- tonera HPC at first place with 1363 points , followed by, The Pit, CrossFit 356 and University degree plus. It was a great competition for the spectators but also one for the sport's future on the Mal- tese Islands, all athletes regis- tered personal best and 3 na- tional records were broken on the day. These positive results from the athletes are the fruit of the intense training camp by Tamas Feher held in Malta few weeks ago with the help of the International weightlifting fed- eration. The competition opened with the cadets category where the athletes who participated gave good performance by their at- tempts and good technique. In the second competition for female athletes was dominated by The Pit team, with two new athletes on the scene, Kirsten Borg and Yazmin Zammit Ste- vens gave a good performance and achieved satisfactory re- sults. In the third and last competi- tion we saw in action some of the best weightlifters present locally together with other ath- letes that have good potential. In this competition many ath- letes improved and broke prec- edent results, Sean Cutajar with 162 points and Andy Grech with 214 points. This competition had also very good results from ath- letes like Martin Pisani lifting the total of 239kg, Matthew Camilleri 217kg and Anton Mi- callef 189kg. For these athletes amongst others this competi- tion served as final preparation for international competitions being held next month in Serbia and Switzerland. Kieran Mifsud, has just re- turned from the Common- wealth Youth Games in Samoa were he placed 4th and set 6 national records in the 94kg category, continued with good performance and improved the level by establishing another two national records both in youth and in junior. The last athlete who dropped scene in this competition was Rodmar Pulis, giving his top performance after gaining sig- nificant international experi- ences. This accumulation of high level performances, in- tense training and focus ena- bled Pulis to set an impressive 245kg total. Next month both Rodmar Pulis and Kieran Mifsud will represent our country in the European juniors to be held in Lithuania. Cottonera HPC receives their fi rst place trophy
