2 Mat thew Vella Malta International air- port has been chosen by British airways to launch a baggage self-tagging sys- tem for all its passengers for the first time in Eu- rope. British airways passen- gers can now print their baggage tags using the self-check-in kiosks avail- able in the Check-In Hall, allowing them to decrease their check-in time. "Malta International airport embraces innovation and we are delighted that British airways chose Malta International air- port as its first European part- ner in this endeavour. With this new state-of-the-art technol- ogy, travellers will have more time to get ready for their f light while also reducing time spent in queues. We believe this will enhance f liers' experience at the airport and we are looking into extending this service to other airlines in the future," Malta In- ternational airport CEO alan Borg said. this new service will give Brit- ish airways travellers more con- trol over their journey - once the tags are printed and safely at- tached to their bags, passengers only need to deposit their suit- case at the designated baggage drop in the same hall. the CUSS (Common Use Self- Service) kiosks were installed in July 2014 to allow lufthansa passengers to check-in without waiting in line – a service which was especially convenient for passengers carrying only cabin- luggage. Since then the service was extended to other airlines including British airways, who took the service one step further by offering their passengers the option to self-tag their hold bag- gage. "Our customers appreciate the opportunity to do more for themselves - like self-service check-in, choosing seats and printing their own boarding cards. Now for the first time they will be able to print their own baggage tags at one of our European airports, Malta Inter- national airport. We are provid- ing them with the freedom to be in control and we are glad that we could work with Malta Inter- national airport to provide this facility," a spokesperson from British airways said. maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 14 OctObEr 2015 News Public Hearings The Malta Council for Economic and Social Development (MCESD) is organising a series of public hearings as part of the project entitled "Moving towards a more effective Social and Civil Dialogue".
