21 The Swiss world number three appeared to have gained control of the match when he comfort- ably took the second set, but the Spaniard broke Federer in the decider on the way to a 7-6 2-6 6-3 victory. Federer, afforded a first-round bye, was playing his first match in more than three weeks and showed signs of rust, making 30 unforced errors against his world number 70 opponent. In their previous meeting, Fe- derer had only lost three games during a three-set thrashing at Wimbledon in 2012, but Ramos- Vinolas showed much more steel on this occasion and extended the opening set into a tie-break. The Barcelona man confident- ly traded groundstrokes with the 17-time Grand Slam champion and held his nerve to take a one- set lead. This surprise setback drew the expected response from Fed- erer, who snapped up two breaks while racing through the second set. But Ramos-Vinolas refused to wilt in the decider and seized upon a shaky service game from Federer to claim his first and only break for a 5-3 lead before serving out for the biggest win of his career. In the next round Ramos-Vino- las faces 16th seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who made easy work of Victor estrella Burgos in straight sets. The 30-year-old Frenchman completed a straight-forward 6-3 6-2 win over the Dominican. In Tuesday's other second- round clash, this year's French Open and Wimbledon quarter- finalist Marin Cilic, seeded 14th here, eased past fellow Croat Borna Coric with a 6-1 6-1 vic- tory in just over an hour. In round one, last year's run- ner-up Gilles Simon of France was made to work hard by Geor- gian qualifier Nikoloz Basilash- vili before progressing with a 6-3 4-6 6-0 win. Ninth-seeded Canaidan Milos Raonic claimed a hard-fought 7-6 (7/5) 7-6 (7/2) victory over Brazil's Thomaz Bellucci to reach the second round. There were also first-round wins for Italian Fabio Fognini, David Goffin of Belgium, Can- ada's Vasek Pospisil and Ameri- can Jack Sock. Richard Gasquet of France, Serbian Viktor Troicki and South African 12th seed Kevin Ander- son also made it through. It means Ronaldo becomes the first player in the awards' illus- trious 47-year history to win the accolade four times. "What a special moment in my professional life!" the 30-year- old said on his official Facebook page. "Winning four Golden Boots is a privilege for me and I'll keep challenging myself because I want to do better every time and I want to keep chasing for more records. "I have to thank everyone in Real Madrid that made this pos- sible and we want to keep win- ning more titles and more tro- phies. Thank you everyone." Long-term adversary, Barcelona maestro Lionel Messi, was edged out into second place, with his 43 goals in 38 Primera Division games unable to secure a fourth Golden Boot of his own. Ronaldo was accompanied at the ceremony in Madrid by his mother, his son, Madrid coach Rafa Benitez, club president Florentino Perez and the Portu- guese ambassador to Spain. And speaking at the gala, Ro- naldo revealed his hunger for further success was unrelenting, adding: "I never planned on win- ning four times. Maybe one or two yes but never four. "I always want more. I know I am the only one to have four but I want more. That implies win- ning trophies with the world 's greatest club. "This year will be no different and we want to win La Liga, the Cup and the Champions League. I hope we see each other again next year." The 30-year-old Ronaldo is level with Raul in Madrid 's all- time leading scorer charts with 323 goals and has the chance to surpass the Spaniard when Le- vante travel to the Bernabeu on Saturday. Real Madrid's striker Cristiano Ronaldo poses in front of his four Golden Boot trophies during a ceremony in Madrid Mercedes now the 'big team' - Rosberg NICO Rosberg says that Mer- cedes is now the "big team" in Formula 1 after it secured its second successive Constructors' Championship, believing that the outfit can dominate across the coming years. Rosberg switched from Wil- liams to Mercedes when the German manufacturer acquired Brawn Grand Prix at the end of 2009 and has taken all 11 of his Formula 1 victories with the marque. Rosberg retired from the lead in Russia, but Lewis hamilton's victory – allied to Ferrari's re- sult – enabled Mercedes to build an unassailable advantage in the Constructors' race. "I've seen this team grow since the start of the Silver Arrows project in 2010 and the level we've got to now, all working to- gether, is unbelievable," Rosberg said. "There were some really tough years at the start but we are now the big team of Formula 1 - dominating the sport and breaking records along the way. "When people think of F1 throughout history, it's only a handful of teams like McLaren in the 1980s, Williams in the 1990s and Ferrari in the 2000s that come to mind - and we are now making our own mark on that list." Rosberg is sure that Mercedes will be able to continue its suc- cess in the future. "What's amazing is that there's so much potential here too," Rosberg said, referring to its factory at Brackley and engine base at nearby Brixworth. "Together, there's no limit to what we can achieve in the coming years. I look forward to many more great memories and exciting times ahead."
