As our list of top stories show, our readers depended on us to bring to them minute-by-minute live cover- age of all national political events. In 2015, we saw local council elec- tions being held in Malta, which saw the Nationalist Party slowly winning back votes it had lost in key locali- ties in the 2012 elections. Readers also logged in to malta- today.com.mt to read the latest on Malta's spring hunting referendum. MaltaToday took an active stand in supporting the Spring Hunting Out campaign, the first ever campaign to hold an abrogative referendum in a bid to put an end to spring hunting in Malta. The referendum was nar- rowly won by the hunting lobby by 2,000 votes, and sent a crucial po- litical message to the powers that be on the strength of the environmental and conservationist lobby. In the aftermath, public dissatis- faction with the result of the refer- endum brought with interest from overseas as a Twitter backlash en- sued Malta was the subject of harsh criticism, with hundreds of tweets pouring in under the hashtags #mal- ta and #maltaslaughter, expressing disgust at the result and calling on the Maltese to be ashamed of them- selves. Our second and third most read news stories were, again, a live- breaking story: the Paqpaqli super- car crash that left many people in- jured and garnered the attention of the international press; and the Mal- taToday infographic showing Malta's public sector salary list. 26 people were injured, three criti- cally, after a Porsche supercar taking part in the annual Paqpaqli ghall-Is- trina motorshow lost control before crashing into a section of the crowd. A six-year-old girl was amongst three people who are in critical con- dition. A magisterial inquiry remains underway. The incident occurred at around 2:00pm at Hal Farrug, metres away from the Lufthansa hangar. The crash occurred when a Porsche 918 Spyder driving along the taxiway lost control before going through the barriers and crashing into a large crowd that was watching the event. Similar news stories dealing with national incidents - the incident at Montekristo animal park where a tiger lashed out at a child, and the Paceville PlusOne club incident gen- erated among the highest views. Our list of public sector salaries sourced directly from either gov- ernment ministries or parliamentary questions was our third most read item online. Snoopy reading, but al- ways compelling for readers to know how their tax money is being spent in the highest public sector roles.
