Is it a) 2 weekly flight b) 2 weekly flights or c) 7 weekly flights? ✂ Name Email Mobile Number Zurich – Switzerland's unexpected city FOR a lot of people, the first thought that comes to mind about Switzerland is snow, skiing, the Alps and cheese. While they're not entirely wrong – winter sports are a huge draw for visitors to Swit- zerland – there is much more to this small landlocked state. Enter Zurich. Switzerland's largest city has plenty to offer, without having to strap on skis. Things to do Uetliberg (uetliberg.ch) is Zu- rich's very own "mountain", from where you have beautiful views of the city and lake – and perhaps even a glimpse of the Alps. At 2,850 feet above sea level, Uetlib- erg towers over the rooftops of Zürich. The mountain affords an impressive panoramic view of the city, the lake and the Alps. Come face to face with Zurich's past and present through a selec- tion of buildings, stories and anec- dotes you'll discover on the Stories of the Old Town guided walking tours. You too will be fascinated by the rich testimonies to bygone days that document the early inter- national significance of the city. Tours are organized by the Zurich tourism authority (zuerich.com). Zurich has the reputation of a shopping city, even if not quite that of London or Milan. Es- pecially Bahnhofstrasse is well known around the globe as one of the most exclusive and expen- sive shopping streets in the world. For Swiss and urban design, the area around Langstrasse is a good spot. The Sihlcity shopping centre (sihlcity.ch), an easily reachable mall opened in 2007, is an exam- ple of an innovative development - without being a giant. The malls and best shopping areas of the city are listed here together with other remarkable shops. The Kunsthaus Zurich (kun- sthaus.ch) is a must for all art enthusiasts with one of the most important modern art collections in Zurich and various temporary exhibitions. In addition to works by Alberto Giacometti, the Kunsthaus Zurich is also home to medieval sculp- tures and panels, paintings from the Dutch and Italian Baroque and highlights of the Swiss 19th and 20th century era. Zurich's own artists and contemporary Swiss painters such as Pipilotti Rist and Peter Fischli / David Weiss are also represented. International works of signifi- cance include the largest Edvard Munch collection outside of Nor- way, key works by Picasso, Monet and Chagall and the expression- ists Kokoschka, Beckmann and Corinth. Pop art is also featured alongside works by Rothko, Merz, Twombly, Beuys, Bacon and Baselitz. Things to eat According to Guinness World Records, Hiltl (hiltl.ch) is the first vegetarian restaurant in the world. It offers around 500 dishes and includes, in addition to the à la carte restaurant and Hiltl buf- fet, self-service and takeaway, a bar-lounge, a club, a cooking stu- dio and a shop. You pay by the weight of the food you buy and Hiltl promises stylish dining, both indoors and out. The restaurant at Kindli (kindli. ch) offers a classic European cui- sine, with a slight colonial twist, and takes great pride in tradition- al Swiss hospitality as well as its attentive friendly service. The Pavillon (aupavillon.ch) features fresh and modern cuisine within an environment that ef- fortlessly fuses contemporary and classic style. Head Chef Laurent Eperon cre- ates an artful combination of traditional ingredients and fla- vors with creative and innovative preparations, and he, along with the Pavillon, was recently award- ed his first Michelin star. Chef Ep- eron and the Pavillon also hold 17 GaultMillau points. The Townhouse has 23 rooms, two junior suites and a restaurant, located in the heart of Zurich. Starting at €180, the rooms are tastefully decorated and feel more like a home away from home than a hotel. Whether you stay in the mod- ern inner-city hotel or at the cosy Guest House, the Walhalla Hotel (walhalla-hotel.ch) is a perfect base for exploring and experi- encing Zurich without breaking the bank. With a central location in the heart of Zurich, just a few steps from the main station, the Walhalla offers the ideal location for business travel or a weekend break in Zurich.
