JANUARY 16-30 Valletta International Baroque Festival Annual festival of baroque music around various venues in Valletta, featuring local and international performers. The Valletta International Baroque Festival has been conceived purposely as a celebration of this baroque identity of Valletta. JANUARY 17 Trackage Scheme presents 'Sacred Noise' Following the huge success of our Rooftop Live Sessions last Summer, Trackage Scheme is back with its winter edition. TS, together with Ir-Razzett L-Ahmar, proudly presents 'Sacred Noise' – a series of alternative, indie and rock live music events from 16:00. Noir Jazz Project is made up of Kris Spiteri on the piano, Edward Ellul on bass and Alex Debono on drums. JANUARY 9, 16 Beyond Words – Who am I? Through the pairing up of an art installation and live performance, artist and globe-trotter, Sandra Gea, explores and questions her own identity from the insights gained from experiencing the cultures and languages that form part of her journey - physical, personal and spiritual. As an extension of her installation, Sandra Gea will be providing two-hour workshops in which the participants will be encouraged to explore the many facets of their own identity in order to unravel the fundamental question of 'Who Am I?' JANUARY 10 The Great Russian Nutcracker Performance of the classic ballet at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta at 16:00. Featuring artists from 'The Crown of Russian Ballet' of Moscow with soloists from Bolshoi Theatre. The Great Russian Nutcracker Ballet is a part of the Festival 'Russian Christmas', which will be held in Malta between January 6-17 January. The festival is organised by Russian- Maltese Cultural Association in collaboration with other Russian diaspora organizations and dedicated to the celebration of the Russian Orthodox Christmas. EXHIBITIONS UNTIL JANUARY 7 Mdina Biennale – 'Christianity, Spirituality and the Other' The Mdina Cathedral Contemporary Art Biennale will establish a spiritual space celebrating creativity. The theme for 2015 is 'Christianity, Spirituality and the Other', 'The Other' standing for faith and non-faith, belief and non- belief, theist and atheist, agnostic and polytheist. The Mdina Biennale traces its roots back to the previous Christian and Sacred Art Biennale of the 1990s, and the forthcoming 2015 event will radically widen its creative spectrum. UNTIL JANUARY 10 Watches Palazzo Falson Historic House Museum in collaboration with Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti is continuing with its series of temporary exhibitions with an exhibition dedicated to antique watches. Over 50 watches specially loaned from private and museum collections, highlight the technological and artistic qualities of antique watches. This exhibition is guest-curated by David Thompson, who occupied the role of senior curator of Horology at the British Museum until his recent retirement. The exhibition considers their variations and functions, and takes an in-depth look at particularly important watches belonging to notable personalities. Jesmond Vassallo's recent corpus of works explores the human body through the mediums of drawing, printing and painting. The theme is explored in diverse techniques and styles, however it tackles the importance of the human figure in the contemporary practice of painting. There will also be interventions from poet Adrian Grima and philosophy student Kurt Borg. The event is free, and entrance will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Bethlehem f'Għajnsielem Bethlehem f 'Għajnsielem is an animated na- tivity village spread on 20,000sqm of land at Għajnsielem, Gozo. Bethlehem f 'Għajnsielem will also include re-enactments of the 'trip' from Nazareth to Bethlehem of Joseph and Mary as well as the Adoration of the Magi on the Epiph- any (first Sunday after New Year's day) when the three Wise Men will depart on horseback from Malta to Cirkew wa terminal where they will board a ferry in mid-afternoon before making the triumphal entrance to the nativity village.
