54 maltatoday, SUNDAY, 3 JANUARY 2016 Sport SNOOKER Ronnie O'Sullivan wants snooker to copy darts' party atmosphere Ronnie O'Sullivan wants to bring the raucous party atmosphere of a darts crowd to a snooker event THE five-time world champion has landed his major titles by playing in enforced near silence at snooker's major venues, includ- ing the Crucible. The atmosphere can still be elec- tric, but O'Sullivan is a regular visitor to the darts PDC Champi- onship at Alexandra Palace, where the crowds, often fuelled by large amounts of alcohol, and razzma- tazz provide an entirely different sense of occasion. O'Sullivan wrote on Twitter: "The new rock stars are the dart players." He asked his followers: "By the way who would go and watch a snooker match played in a darts atmosphere?" Despite a mixed response, O'Sullivan added: "Ok we will do one and see how it goes, I will play (Judd) trump first and see if it's what the public wants. "I'd love to play in that atmos- phere, and anyone who can't, go home." O'Sullivan, 40, was awarded an OBE in the New Year Honours and will make his first tournament ap- pearance since the World Champi- onship last April when he plays at the Masters this month. The Masters - also at Alexandra Palace - runs from January 10 to 17 and O'Sullivan starts his bid to win the event for a sixth time when he plays Mark Williams on January 12. Ronnie O'Sullivan Paul Pogba: I'm nobody, I've done nothing yet PAUL Pogba "wants to honour" the Juventus Number 10 jersey, learns from Andres Iniesta and welcomes Bayern Munich. Juventus will face Bayern in the Champions League next month, but Pogba is not concerned - as the Frenchman told Turin-based newspaper La Stampa. "On the one hand we could've got an easier draw, but on the other it's good that everyone ex- pects us to lose," he said. "They said the same in the semi-final against Real Madrid last season. "It's tough to play against Vi- dal, though. I am nobody yet, I've done nothing in my career." Pogba also spoke about what he expects from 2016. "The last few months have been different to previous years, when we were always top of the table. Things have changed. "I also treasure the defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League Final. We lost, but as they say, you learn from defeats and mistakes. I want to win it one day. "Obviously without Andrea Pirlo, Arturo Vidal and Carlos Tevez it is a different Juventus. There's more responsibility on the other players and we have to focus more on working as a unit. The same is true for me. "Before I had Pirlo by my side and one of our opponents was al- ways marking him. Now they put the same marker on me. Paul Pogba FOOTBALL Former Wigan defender Steve Gohouri found dead STEVE Gohouri, the former Wigan defender, has been found dead in the river Rhine. Dusseldorf police confirmed the news on Saturday, according to a report in the Rheinische Post. The 34-year-old defender, who played for Wigan between 2010 and 2012 and also represented Maccabi Tel Aviv and Borussia Monchengladbach, had been re- ported missing by his family in December. Gohouri, who had 13 caps for the Ivory Coast, attended the Christmas party of his German club TSV Steinbach before head- ing to see his family in Paris, but he never arrived.
