Following a drab, goalless first half, Triston Caruana was unlucky not to put the Rainbows ahead five minutes into the second half as his header hit the post. On 57 minutes, centre forward Luke Montebello put Tarxien ahead with a low shot which beat Saints custodian Jake Galea. Yesterday's goal was Montebel- lo's seventh of the season. Five minutes later, St Andrews drew level when substitute Kyrian Nwoko's first-time shot beat goal- keeper Andrea Cassar. ST. The Lions, on the other hand, start on the 7-point mark, two ahead of Qormi. Naxxar took the lead seven minutes after the break when Demba Toure beat goalkeeper Glenn Zammit. Four minutes later, Jurgen Debono won a loose ball and served Duane Bonnici who calmly put the ball beyond Zammit for the second time. Sliema scored a consolation goal one minute from time when substitute Haruna Shola Shodiya scored with a power- ful shot. The league leaders complet- ed their second round com- mitments by beating Qormi 2-0 thanks to goals by Argen- tinian duo Juan Cruz Gill and Federico Falcone. Following a goalless first half during which Valletta were twice denied by the wood- work, the Citizens broke the deadlock seven minutes into the second half when Cruz saw his header beat hapless Qormi goalkeeper Jean Mat- thias Vella. The Citizens kept pushing forward and two minutes later Mifsud hit a firm low drive that was pushed away by Vel- la. On 68 minutes Valletta dou- bled their lead when Falcone rose high to head home. The defeat leaves Qormi deep in the relegation zone. The yellows will start the third round with 5 points, two behind Naxxar and two ahead of St. Andrews.
