EXHIBITIONS STARTING SEPTEMBER 30 Lokali Exhibition focusing on Maltese WHAT'S ON University of Malta MA Fine Arts Final Projects Exhibition By Lorraine Lewis A number of works produced by students of the University of Malta's MA Fine Arts course are currently on display at Splendid in Strait Street and City Gate, Valletta, and the Addolorata Cemetry in Paola. The long-awaited course opened for the first time in October 2014 and offered students an opportunity to take their studies to the next level. The exhibition features work covering a number of diverse themes and concepts touching on the humane, environmental issues, and scientific concerns. Noel Attard tackled some of the cultural tensions inherent in society with a public sculpture, entitled 'It-Taraġ', installed at Valletta's city gate. Clint Calleja's piece, 'Modern Irregular Argonauts', comprises a wooden vessel symbolizing the fate of so many migrants. Leanne Lewis's work, 'Diaphanous', captures the issue of the local destruction of trees, showing their vital role in our lives. 'Appear Missing' by Jeremy Amaira shows abstract, decomposed figures, dwelling on the interplay between presence and absence of bodies. 'Rebirth' by Matthew Farrugia is based on scientific knowledge intertwined with alchemy and philosophical perspectives. The exhibition is open until the 25th of September at Splendid in Valletta, and 'Modern Irregular Argonauts' will be on display in Addolorata Cemetery, open between 07:00 and 16:30 until the end of the month. 'It-Taraġ', located at the entrance to Valletta is also on display until the end of the month. It-Tarag by Noel Attard
