46 Events maltatoday, SUNDAY, 25 SEPTEMBER 2016 MADC opens season with 'The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie' MADC opens its new season with The Prime of Miss Jean Br- odie directed by Chiara Hyzler, at Blue Box theatre. "Give me a girl at an impres- sionable age, and she is mine for life." So speaks Jean Brodie, the liberated and charismatic school- teacher in an all-girls school in Edinburgh in the 1930s. Eccentric, egocentric, and charming, Brodie believes that in1930 she is in her prime, and this perception inf luences her teaching that becomes all the more idiosyncratic and personal. She ignores the standard cur- riculum and teaches her students about art, culture, and politics in line with her own passion for culture and knowledge, concen- trating her efforts on a small group of favoured girls, her "Bro- die set". Miss Brodie develops them cul- turally, confiding in them and they become loyal and admire her. These include the beautiful Jenny, a timid Mary MacGregor, and the sharp-witted Sandy, who watches carefully as Miss Brodie instructs her charges to – "do as I say and not as I do!" Miss Brodie manipulates and brainwashes them into follow- ing all her ideologies instead of those of the school. The play fol- lows her journey and the conse- quences of her actions with the staff and on her set. The Prime of Miss Jean Bro- die is a gripping, entertaining, powerful drama of adolescence and adulthood, of betrayal and manipulation, and the powerful, lasting effect of a charismatic teacher. Jean Brodie is played by Julia Calvert with Jasmine Farrugia as Sandy, Taryn Mamo Cefai as Jenny and Kyra Lautier as Mary MacGregor. The cast includes Sandie Von Brockdorff, Jonathan Dunn, Stefan Farrugia, Kather- ine Brown, Ninette Micallef and Michael Mangion. The Primee of Miss Jean Brodie runs from Friday 7th to Sunday 9th and from Friday 14th to Sun- day 16th 9th 19th to Sunday 24th July, at Blue Box at M Space, Msi- da (Opposite entrance to Junior College) BOOKING: Online www. bluebox.com.mt, Tel: 2124 6644 Mob: 7979 3737 Malta Public Transport offers free transport to vulnerable job-seekers VULNERABLE job-seekers can now make use of free public trans- port, after Malta Public Trans- port signed an agreement with the Malta Association of Support- ed Employment, offering partici- pants of the Positive Supported Employment Programme (PSEP) free credit on their tallinja bus cards so they can attend training sessions and job interviews. The PSEP provides vulnerable individuals in the poverty line with training sessions to help them build the necessary skills to find a job. PSEP executive director Mar- these Mugliette said public trans- port is the only means of mobil- ity for most participants. "Such gestures will enable them to in- tegrate better within society," she said. Malta Public Transport said the initiative would encourage peo- ple to develop their skills to be more independent. "We believe that giving a little helping hand to get started can boost their mo- tivation and actually make a dif- ference," MPT general manager Konrad Pulé said.
