maltatoday, SUNDAY, 15 JANUARY 2017 II Motoring The Pluri Awarded Alfa Romeo Giulia Now in Malta ALFA Romeo's latest sports se- dan, the ALFA ROMEO GIULIA, is finally in Malta. Created by the Alfa Romeo Style Centre, the exciting Giulia is a new expression of the best Italian tradition that combines harmonic proportions, linearity of style, high quality materials and sophisticated aluminium, wood and leather accents. All embellished with iconic ele- ments originating in brand's over one-hundred-year history, the most significant of which is the trefoil, arguably the most famous emblem of Alfa Romeo design. La Giulia has already been the recipient to some very notewor- thy awards during 2016 such as the prestigious "EuroCarBody 2016", the most prestigious award for body design in the world organised by "Automo- tive Circle International", the "Auto Europa 2017" contest, assigned by the Italian Union of Motoring Journalists and also named "Most Beautiful Car" in the "Golden Steering Wheel" competition in Germany. The Alfa Giulia is also a final- ist for the CAR of The Year Award 2017 which is due to be announced by a combined jury representing seven publications, each from a different European country on March 6th during the Geneva Motor Show. In 2016, The Giulia also earned the prestigious 5-star rating from Euro NCAP, with a score of 98% for the adult occupant protection of all percentiles: the highest score ever achieved by any car, even with the introduction of a more stringent rating system in 2015. This important award con- firms the special attention that Alfa Romeo pays to the safety of all road users. The Alfa Romeo Giulia also features two key elements namely, the adoption of a wide range of innovative safety systems, and secondly, the ef- ficiency of a bodyshell that's light and rigid in equal measure. The model in fact, features extensive use of ultra-lightweight materials such as carbon-fibre, aluminium and aluminium composite. The Alfa Romeo Giulia embod- ies uncompromising design and construction, set to become a new paradigm for the brand and a new benchmark for the entire segment, including on the safety front. According to BBC's Top Gear Magazine that also awarded the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio with the 2016 'Car of the Year' Award, "the Giulia is modern and high-tech but the proposi- tion is simple: engine, handling, beauty. Those are things we want from Alfa and the Giulia over-delivers". In keeping with Alfa Romeo tradition, the Giulia features a host of innovative technical solutions designed to deliver first-class dynamic qualities that also translate into top levels of safety. The most sophisticated equip- ment includes the Integrated Brake System (IBS), which significantly reduces braking distance (100 km/h to 0 in 38 m for the Giulia and 32 m for the Quadrifoglio version), the ad- vanced suspension set-up with exclusive AlfaLink technology, and the most direct steering in class: combined, these features deliver outstanding road-holding and easy, intuitive control of the vehicle in every situation. And lastly, when it comes to driver assistance systems, the new Giulia represents the latest state of the art. Standard equipment on the entire Giulia range includes Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and Autono- mous Emergency Brake (AEB) with pedestrian detection. Using a radar sensor and a camera built into the windscreen, these systems detect the presence of any obstacles or vehicles on the car's trajectory and warn the driver of the risk of imminent collision. And thanks to the pe- destrian recognition function, the AEB is also capable of stopping the car autonomously at speeds of up to 60 km/h, by interpreting the information from the radar and camera. Standard equipment across the Giulia range also includes Lane Departure Warning (LDW), which detects unintentional lane changes, and Blind Spot Moni- toring (BSM) with Rear Cross Path Detection as optional, which uses sensors to monitor the area around the car and assist the driver when overtak- ing, changing lane or exiting car parks by monitoring any cars that may be approaching. Visit the Alfa Romeo show- room in Valley Road Msida, to view the new Giulia and to book a test drive at your conveni- ence.
