maltatoday, SUNDAY, 2 JULY 2017 2 News JAMES DEBONO THE Planning Authority has approved the construction of a 13-storey guesthouse and restaurant instead of two shops in Bisazza Lane in Slie- ma. The guesthouse will include a total of 194 beds on an 85 square metre site. The proposal was initially recommended for refusal by the Planning Directorate be- cause the Development Plan- ning (Health and Sanitary) Regulations issued in 2016, state that the overall height of any facade is not to exceed two times the width of an al- ley. But the board justified over- turning the recommended re- fusal on the basis of the com- mitment created by a permit issued in 2011, which allowed a 30-metre high office block on an adjacent site. The project was proposed by Keith Attard Portughes on behalf of ICI Limited. The proposal involves the construction of 13 levels above the alley level with a street frontage height of 37.1 Reporter MediaToday Co. Candidates who display an ability to harness the opportunities of online reporting - use of social media, using mobile phone photography, producing first-draft copy for online consumption - will be given preference. Good TV presence is a plus.
