22 ON Sunday, July 1, 2017, the Assocjazzjoni Sport Muturi u Karozzi held a busy evening where several events were or- ganised at the ASMK Sports Complex at Ta' Qali. This Sat- urday evening saw the partici- pation of ASMK sections which included the Motocross and Trials riders together with the Autocross cars. For this event 48 competitors were registered and divided into their respective disciplines. Meanwhile the ASMK or- ganised the motocross the last event of this season where in Class A we have seen the Mus- cat brothers dominate the day on the MX track. Paul Muscat was able to win the first Heat while in the second Heat he fin- ished in second place thus clos- ing the day in the first position. Paul Muscat was followed by his brother Trevor Muscat both on KTM motorcycles. Third place was won by David Dimech on a Honda motorcycle. In Class B James Zahra on Sherco won this class followed by Bernard Sammut on a Husq- varna and Robert Spiteri on a Yamaha. Class C was dominated by Joe Azzopardi on a Yamaha followed by Luke Sheldon on a Kawasaki. In the Veterans Class we saw Paul Deguara on a KTM winning this class and followed by brothers Sant William on a Suzuki and Jethro on a Yamaha. Louis Debono won fourth place riding a Yamaha motorcycle. The Association officially an- nounced that Paul Muscat on a KTM won the ASMK Na- tional Motocross Champion- ship sponsored by ASMK & Pasta Poiatti 2016/2017. During this season Muscat was able to win six races out of eight and he finished second in one race and fourth in another thus win- ning a total of 373 points in this Championship. Muscat was de- clared a Championship winner for the First time. He is followed by David Dimech in 2nd Over- all on a Honda motorcycle with 306 championship points. Other Motocross classifica- tions that were closed on this Saturday is Class B which host- ed riders who are intending to move forward to Class A in the coming season. Class B Cham- pionship winner is Ryan Fae- nza on a Yamaha motorcycle who won this class with a good points advantage. Ryan won 339 points and is followed by Mark Mamo on a Yamaha motorcy- cle with 145 points. The Veter- ans Class which was launched this year for the first time was a success and drew a number of older Riders to participate dur- ing this season. Sant brothers William and Jethro dominated this class with William winning 359 points on his Suzuki. Jethro Sant on a Yamaha is 2nd in this class with 352 points. The As- sociation welcomes all winners and participants too. In the meantime the Trials competition was also held on the same evening at the ASMK Sport Complex and we had these results. In Class A we saw Damon Bonello on a Gas Gas winning this class while Row- en Bonello on Beta followed in 2nd place. Third place winner is Sicilian Trials rider Antonio Leonardi on his Gas Gas mo- torcycle. In Class B, young Daniel In- guanez on his Beta motorcycle to continue dominating and winning this class. Tony Curmi followed in 2nd place on his Be- ta motorcycle. Next Trials event is scheduled to take place on Saturday 15th July 2017 at the Qrendi Tal-Maghlaq Quarry. This activity starts at 4:00 pm and day members are welcome. The Autocross Section has or- ganized the tenth event of the 2016/2017 Championship from the total of twelve events. In the Modified Class we had these results. In the Final Class A we saw Andrew Pisani on Vauxhall Nova winning this 9 Laps race ahead of JeanPaul Grech on his Peugeot 106. Third place win- ner is Vince Farrugia on his VW Polo. From the Final of Class B we saw Philip Joe Vella on his Opel Corsa winning this final race where Noel Zammit fol- lowed on his Fiat Punto. Third place winner is Chris Aquilina on an Opel Corsa. From Au- tocross Standard Class it was Johann Vella on an Opel Nova to win this race followed by Deane Farrugia on his Citroen AX while Nicovich Chircop on his Peugeot 106 won 3rd place. In the meantime the Asso- ciation will continue the next two events in the coming Sat- urday evenings. Next Satur- day 8 July 2017 ASMK will be organizing the eleventh (11th) program from the Autocross National Championship for 2016/2017. The program starts at 8:00 pm and continues till late under artificial lighting.
