maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 5 JULY 2017 News 17 Phnom Penh becomes Emirates' latest gateway EMIRATES recently expanded its presence in Southeast Asia with the launch of a new daily linked service from Dubai to Phnom Penh (PHN) in Cam- bodia, via Yangon in Myanmar. This new service, operated with a Boeing 777 aircraft, broadens the airline's network in Southeast Asia to 13 cities in eight countries and offers more choices and convenience to passengers travelling be- tween Phnom Penh to Dubai and beyond. It also marks the first time since 2014 that Phnom Penh and Yangon were connected by a direct air link, serving increasing demand for travel between the two fast- developing cities. Phnom Penh, the first des- tination within Cambodia to be served by Emirates, is one of the fastest growing econo- mies in Southeast Asia. As the country's largest city and the most important commercial centre, Phnom Penh contrib- utes largely to the country's economic growth. Gateway to the world famous Angkor Wat temple complex, Cambodia offers visitors a rare glimpse of ancient Asia, and has witnessed a significant in- crease in foreign tourist arriv- als. As the World's Best Airline 2017 awarded by TripAdvisor, Emirates provides its custom- ers with a wide range of choic- es across its global network of more than 150 destinations in 83 countries and territories together with exceptional on- board offerings and services. Flights to Phnom Penh will depart daily from Dubai In- ternational Airport (DXB) at 9.15am local time, arriving in Yangon at 5.25pm. The dancers later performed for the departing passengers on EK 389 The Marsovin Summer Wine Festival BETWEEN Friday and Sunday, from 8pm until 1am, Marsovin will be celebrating the 10th An- niversary of their Wine Festival at Hastings gardens in Valletta. The Marsovin Summer Wine festival is set to be a wine festival with a difference. A fusion of good wine, food & music The artists in this year's line- up include Malta & Gozo's lead- ing bands: Airport Impressions & The Travellers, two of the most successful bands to have emerged locally in recent years; Vinyl Paradise, a cutting edge blues band; Swing Nuages, a fun- loving gypsy swing and man- ouche jazz band; The Busker, a band blending 1960s pop/rock with folk/rock, Novel, a band covering multi-genre songs: rock band, Jack's Fusion; and Analisa Cassar & Band who will be sing- ing along to some popular tunes. We shall be including a dedi- cated Wine Educational Area, which will offer fun and interac- tive ways to learn about wine. It will feature a blind tasting of a selection of wines, followed by a detailed explanation of each one, and the opportunity to walk away with a prize. For more information visit: www. marsovinwinefestival.com Enjoy some great wine and music while taking in the majestic views from the Valletta bastions, overlooking the Yacht Marina and Sliema harbour Malita Investments signs €53.7 million finance contract with EIB and CEB for the development of affordable housing MALITA Investments plc has signed a finance contract with the European Investment Bank and the Council of Europe De- velopment Bank at very com- petitive rates for a period of 25 years. The financing will go towards the construction of af- fordable housing units. The contract was signed at the Ministry of Finance in Valletta by Kenneth Farrugia, Chair- man, Malita Investments plc with Rainer Lovato, Principal Country Manager, Council of Europe Development Bank and Miguel Morgado, European Investment Bank director for Malta in the presence of Hon Michael Falzon, Minister for the family, children's rights and social solidarity and Hon Edward Scicluna, Minister for Finance Through this financing agree- ment, Malita intends to develop circa 680 housing units consist- ing of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom apart- ments with the total cost of de- velopment including finishes amounting to €58 million. It is the intention of the com- pany for the units to be con- structed in different sites across Malta and will address a short- age in affordable housing units which are available to persons who cannot afford to purchase their own residential home or lease the above average and high-end quality apartments that are being introduced in the market. Addressing the signing cer- emony Dario Scannapieco, EIB Vice-president responsible for Malta said that, "The project will contribute to the allevia- tion of the current shortages in social housing supply in Malta and generate significant posi- tive social benefits in deprived communities. The EIB is proud to be a partner of the Maltese Government, Malita Invest- ments and the Social Housing Authority in this project, which will be the first social housing operation in Malta for the EIB and confirms the commitment of EIB towards housing invest- ment." Commenting on the signing, CEB Vice-Governor for Social Development Strategy Rosa María Sánchez-Yebra Alonso said that, "Providing vulnerable population groups with access to affordable housing is one of the CEB's priority areas of ac- tivity. I am very pleased that this loan will increase the sup- ply of housing in Malta, help- ing in particular those most in need. I am also glad that the new dwellings will meet mod- ern, energy-efficient standards, which will have important en- vironmental benefits." In his address Farrugia said that "we are pleased to have to come to an agreement with the EIB and the CEB, two promi- nent and esteemed European credit institutions which will enable Malita to finance an affordable housing project in Malta. We are equally proud to be spearheading this project which will contribute towards an increase in the supply of af- fordable housing units in Malta for which there is evidently a significant demand."
