maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 5 JULY 2017 8 News PHOTOGRAPHY BY CHRIS MANGION The Tenors wow audience at concert marking the end of the Maltese EU Presidency EVERYTHING, every endeav- our, every occasion, every mon- umental milestone, must even- tually come to an end. This was also true for the 2017 Maltese Presidency of the Council of the European Union; a unique landmark moment in Maltese political history, and one that brought with it a great number of achievements and a lot of po- litical praise for our country. Despite being somewhat lost and forgotten amidst the din of the general election, it was a wonderful time for Malta – six hectic months full of events, both political and cultural, and which brought tens of thou- sands of individuals to our shores. In the true spirit of rEUnion, which was the central theme for this Presidency, Malta cel- ebrated all it had achieved in the same way it heralded in its goals and priorities in January – through music. Smart City turned into a hub of activity last Friday, as a great number of Maltese musical ce- lebrities entertained the crowd, accompanied by 23 musicians directed by Mro Paul Abela. The concert featured spe- cial guests The Tenors (Fraser Walters, Clifton Murray and Maltese-Canadian Victor Mi- callef), an award-winning trio, who have performed around the world and are famous for blending classical music and contemporary pop. This closing concert offered the crowd two and a half hours of non-stop music, performed on a beautifully lit and branded stage while backed by the mar- vellous dancing water of the Smart City fountain. It was an event that symbol- ised the culmination of rEUn- ion – Malta's citizens, the cen- tre of the presidency's project, came together in a celebration of one of the most successful periods of Maltese political his- tory – the 2017 Maltese Presi- dency of the Council of the EU. About The Tenors The Tenors have been thrill- ing audiences around the world with their powerful songs, out- standing harmonies, and un- deniable charm. Blending clas- sical music and contemporary pop, the award winning and multi-platinum selling band have achieved international success, performing almost 1,000 shows on five continents. The Canadian vocal super group have performed for the last four Presidents of the United States, including at the White House Christmas Tree Lighting for the Obama fam- ily, for the world leaders at the G20 Summit, for the opening ceremonies of the XXI Olym- pic Winter Games, and for Her Majesty the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and most recently for her 90th Birthday celebrations at Windsor Castle. The Tenors have had the hon- our of sharing the stage with some of the biggest names in music, including Sir Paul Mc- Cartney, Sarah McLachlan, Sting, Justin Bieber, Andrea Bocelli, Sir Elton John, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Li- onel Richie, and David Foster. They have also made over 150 television appearances, includ- ing in The Oprah Winfrey Show with Celine Dion and the Primetime Emmy Awards Broadcast.
