Based in Blata l-Bajda, CAStu- dio has been selected by Ricasoli Properties Ltd to bring its vision for the development located in SmartCity Malta. CAStudio was established af- ter Carter decided it was time to enjoy designing her own projects following years of work at archi- tectural firms on high-end pro- jects. "Each of the 411 apartments at The Shoreline will reflect our belief and dedication to contem- porary spaces with a guiding principle of creating spaces that celebrate the identity of both the owner and the space," she ex- plained. The Shoreline is a €200 million project offering modern apart- ments with an interesting mix of sizes and view orientations, all with extensive terraces, built on top of a two-floor 30-outlet shop- ping mall, with ample space for underground parking. The opening of SKYBEACH represents the completion of InterContinental Malta's all- embracing refurbishments. Fundacion Mapfre issues call for scholarships and research grants worth €330,000 Fundación MAPFRE has made a new call for applications for scholarships and grants for a total amount of €330,000, open to aca- demic and professional research- ers and research teams that wish to develop research prgrammes independently or within the scope of the universities, hospitals, com- panies or research centers that they belong to. This call for 10 Ignacio Hernan- do de Larramendi research grants will provide financial support for research projects in the areas of Health Promotion, and Insurance and Social Protection. The scope of this call is world- wide and projects may be present- ed in Spanish, English or Portu- guese. The maximum endowment for each grant will depend on the research field chosen: Health pro- motion, €48,000; Insurance and social protection, €15,000. The deadline for submitting applica- tions ends on October 13, 2017. The first call for applications for research grants took place in 1979 and since then Fundación MAP- FRE has awarded more than 2,000 grants of this type. Another research grant, entitled The Primitivo de Vega Research Grant, for €15,000, is aimed at providing financial support for a scientific project focusing on care for the elderly. The deadline for submitting applications ends on October 20, 2017. For terms and conditions, visit www.fundacionmapfre.org Vassallo Group awards "shining" employees Vassallo Group once again held its annual Shine Awards night, this year at the Sir Temi Zammit Hall, The University of Malta. At this event awards for excel- lence in various areas of operation and for overall performance were awarded. These included awards for the best customer focus, green initiatives, project and service quality. Other awards given out for efforts related to health & safety, and training and develop- ment. For the first time an award for diversity and inclusion was also introduced. Awards were also distributed to the best employee, supervisor and manager. In a speech during the event, Group Chairman Nazzareno Vassallo touched upon the main achievements of the Group throughout the past year. His speech served as an occasion to launch two new schemes for the group's employees – a pen- sion bonus scheme for those who reach pensionable age after years of service with the group as well as a loyalty reward scheme where employees get to share from the group's success in a tangible way. The event was compered by TV personality and actor Ben Camille. The night ended on a high note with the announcement of the coveted Chairman's awards for this year given to all those in- volved in the evacuation of all el- derly residents at Casa San Paolo in Bugibba when fire broke out recently in the home's laundry room. The event included the partici- pation of Janice Mangion, who this year placed 2nd in the Malta Eurovision Song Contest and dancers from the group Street El- ements. A number of Indian nurs- es working in different CareMalta homes staged an excellent perfor- mance in typical Indian costumes highlighting the group's belief in promoting cultural diversity.
