maltatoday, SUNDAY, 20 AUGUST 2017 Events 42 Blue is the coolest colour in water-inspired exhibition For three years their water paints bled onto paper, but blue appeared to be the coolest colour on the fi- nal artwork of students who, since September 2015, have been work- ing on creating their version of the world with water at its centre. The 'Imagine Water, Catch the Drop' project was launched in Malta for three scholastic years 2015-2018 and will culminate in a public exhibition as part of the Spazju Kreattiv programme at St James Cavalier, Valletta, in April 2018. Sponsored by HSBC Water Pro- gramme – Catch the Drop and run by l'association École d'art au village (Edaav), the project was designed to engage artists, teach- ers, and students in a long-term and meaningful creative process while raising awareness of the im- portance of water to the Maltese islands. Students were encouraged to use a variety of media such as paint, photography, video, music, collage, or installations. Edaav is said to be a growing movement of global artists who have dedicated themselves to in- spire children to appreciate cul- ture and heritage via artistic me- diums. In Malta, a total of 125 students per scholastic year were super- vised by Edaav President Sébastien Cailleux and Maltese artist Luca Cauchi. The participating students came from three schools in Malta and one in Gozo. Sébastien Cailleux said: "It is thanks to the funding by HSBC Water Programme – Catch the Drop that we would not have been able to introduce the ide- als of l'association École d'art au village to Malta. Together with HSBC, our other partners Canson and Sennelier, provided an artis- tic space to young beneficiaries to freely express their talent." Artist Luca Cauchi said: "Through this innovative project, not only could I explore and ex- pand my artistic skills, but I could also see the theme of water from a completely different perspec- tive. Children have a lot of energy and when this is channelled into a brush and onto paper, wonderful artworks emerge." The exhibition will run from 13th April 2018 to 13th May 2018 and purposefully elevates Valletta's ar- tistic standing during a time when the city will be celebrating being the European Capital of Culture 2018. Public workshops will also be held alongside the exhibition. The HSBC Water Programme – Catch the Drop is the largest ever national environmental and educational campaign of its kind in Malta with an aim to forge a blueprint for progress on sus- tainability of water as a resource. The programme was launched in 2013 and has been extended until 2019. The exhibition will run for one month beginning 13th April 2018 Edaav artist Luca Cauchi guiding students during one of the creative learning sessions Aperol Spritz aperitif party in the pjazza For two afternoons this sum- mer, Pjazza Sant'Anna in Sliema was transformed into a vibrantly orange party with live entertain- ment, delicious finger food, gor- geous prizes and refreshing Ap- erol Spritz drinks. Shoppers, passersby and tourists were invited to join in the fun at the first Aperol Spritz Aperitif party. The colour orange was every- where, representing the distinc- tive colour and spirit of the drink. Beautiful rows of upside down orange umbrellas created a shade from the afternoon sun, while striped deck chairs, soft cushions and Aperol Spritz hostesses were all in orange. "We wanted to give people a social and light-hearted occasion to remember. The sparkling re- freshing flavour, the low alcohol and bright orange content, make Aperol Spritz the perfect drink that replicates the Italian lifestyle in Malta from the aperitif hour to an evening in the piazza," said Claudia Attard, Aperol Brand Executive at Farsons Beverage Imports Company (FBIC) Lim- ited. Aperol Spritz is one of the most widely consumed cocktails in Italy and is fast becoming a cult drink in Malta. It is made by mix- ing Aperol with Prosecco and a splash of soda, topping it up with a slice of orange: light in alcohol, sparkling and refreshing, it's the ideal drink for every occasion. It can be enjoyed before a meal, whether that is lunch, as a real Italian aperitif before dinner, or simply as a lighter option at an after-work get-together with col- leagues and friends. Aperol is imported, marketed and distributed by FBIC Limited, a member of the Farsons Group. Maltese altar boys granted exclusive access to Sistine chapel Maltese altar boys visited the Pauline Chapel within the Ap- ostolic Palace in Vatican City on Wednesday, in an experience aimed at renewing their Catholic faith. In the chapel, dedicated to the arrival of St Paul in Malta, each altar boy read passages from the biblical story within the Acts of the Apostles, after which they re- cited the Apostles' Creed. Fr Paul Augustinian, sacristan at the Pope's Chapel, asked the Swiss Guard to open the Sistine Chapel for the Maltese altar boys, who, all alone in the historic place of wor- ship that was closed to the public on the day, appreciated the scrip- tural scenes frescos painted by 16th century artist Michelangelo. Fr Frans Bonnici, Fr Mark Ellul and Matthew Bajada accompa- nied the altar boys.
