48 Events maltatoday SUNDAY 12 NOVEMBER 2017 International Analytics Company Hotjar aims to empower young up-and-coming entrepreneurs by donating €10,000 to the 'Junior Achievement Young Enterprise Malta Foundation' (JAYE Malta). The gesture is a somewhat per- sonal one for Hotjar co-founder and CEO David Darmanin, whose first taste of the business world occurred when he was Managing Director of Omicron, a JAYE Malta Company which went on to be- come the National and European winning team back in 1998. "I come from a family of non- business people so participating in the 'JAYE Company Program', was my first-ever experience of the business world." he explained, "It gave me the opportunity to try my hand at taking business risks in a structured and controlled en- vironment, where new ideas were encouraged and supported." Julian Azzopardi, CEO of JAYE Malta added that young people participating in the 'JAYE Malta Company Program' benefit from an invaluable experience which enables them to discover their own strengths and build on them ac- cordingly. "We are helping to cultivate to- morrow's business talent and the support of today's businesses is crucial to our success. We would like to thank Hotjar for this gener- ous donation and for being such a valued supporter and ambassador to JAYE Malta." Darmanin recalls one impor- tant lesson he learnt through his participation in the 'JAYE Malta Company Program'. "People un- derestimate how challenging it can be to work in a team, and learning to bring the right people together is a fundamental skill which I started to develop during my participa- tion in the 'JAYE Malta Company Program', and which I continue to cultivate today with Hotjar." He added, "To many people's sur- prise Hotjar is more of a 'people business' rather than a 'software business' and we attribute a lot of its success to our ability in choos- ing the right people to join our team." Apart from Darmanin, The Hot- jar founding team comprises Jona- than Vella, Marc von Brockdorff, Johan Malmberg and Erik Naslund and the company is made up of a team of 50 people spread across 14 countries, servicing over 250,000 websites worldwide. "We are thrilled about having reached €10 million in Annual Re- curring Revenue, however, for us, the biggest achievement is having over 250,000 websites benefitting from our services," Darmanin said. "We are also extremely happy to be in a position to share our story and inspire young people and also encourage more businesses to reach out and support this worthy initiative." Azzopardi said that funding was essential for JAYE Malta. "Being a non-profit organisation, contributions are very important to us, as they help ensure that we have the resources required to support the JAYE Malta initiatives and continue helping today's youth reach their full potential," he said. Darmanin said that he attributes part of his success today to having participated in the 'JAYE Malta Company Program' almost 20 years ago. "My message to young people is, if you have an idea, go for it. Even if it fails, you will learn something from it which will help you in the future," he said. "If you have the opportunity, participate in the programs offered by JAYE Malta as it could be the crucial head-start you need for your future in business." Caqlaq 'Let's all Play' Programme at St Paul's Bay Primary School The fifth edition of Fundación MAPFRE's educational pro- gramme entitled 'Ċaqlaq' has continued into the new scho- lastic year with physical activity sessions at St Paul's Bay Primary School, part of Maria Regina College. This year, the focus of the Ċaqlaq Programme is on cre- ating awareness and the enjoy- ment of physical exercise among school children in local primary and middle schools. For this year's edition of 'Ċaqlaq', Fundación MAPFRE has teamed up with the Malta Volley- ball Association (MVA), which is implementing the programme on its behalf. As part of the Ċaqlaq Programme, the MVA has been conducting a series of visits to primary and middle schools, and organising events for schoolchil- dren. In line with the theme of the programme, 'Let's all play', these activities focus on giving children exposure to physical ac- tivity within a fun environment, while enabling them to experi- ence aspects of physical activity, such as basic motor skills, agil- ity, movement coordination, and teamwork. MAPFRE Middlesea Chairman Martin Galea said that both Fun- dación MAPFRE and the Malta Volleyball Association share a concern for the increasing con- sequences related to the lack of physical exercise, particularly among children, and the certain- ty that in most cases, this is due to a lack of awareness of the positive effects of healthy lifestyle habits, in particular that of regular exer- cise. Galea confirmed that both parties "strongly believe that the situation can be greatly improved by encouraging children to par- ticipate in activities where they can enjoy physical exercise, in- cluding activities within a team sports environment, in a spirit of fun and teamwork." Malta Volleyball Associa- tion President Jesmond Saliba explained that the aim of the programme was to develop chil- dren's interest in regular physical activity through participation in a sport, at least at a basic level. "We also see this as a vehi- cle for social inclusion through sport, something which we, as an association, strongly believe in. Hence the slogan adopted for the Ċaqlaq Programme, 'Let's all play!' ", said Saliba. MAPFRE Middlesea p.l.c. (C- 5553) is authorised by the Malta Financial Services Authority to carry on both Long Term and General Business under the In- surance Business Act, 1998. MAPFRE MSV Life p.l.c. is au- thorised by the Malta Financial Services Authority to carry on long term business under the Insurance Business Act 1998. Both entities are regulated by MFSA.
