maltatoday WEDNESDAY 13 DECEMBER 2017 Sport 22 MOTORSPORTS Car Demolition for l-Istrina at ASMK this Sunday ON Sunday December 17 the "Assoc- jazzjoni Sport Muturi u Karozzi" will be organising special activities held every year at Christmas time. Like pre- vious years this Sunday's event is going to be held to collect funds for l-Istrina. In this 24th event edition the day's programme is to include the Auto- cross races in their fourth event of the ASMK - Pasta Poiatti 2017/2018 Na- tional Autocross Championship. The Motocross riders will also be compet- ing on this day in a non-Championship Fun Races. The day's programme begins at 8am with the Motocross races while car racing follows from 10am. The pro- gramme is expected to come to an end with the Demolition Derby great event starting at around the 3.30pm. Although the Demolition competi- tors are finding it very difficult to buy old cars for this Car Demolition event which is held only "Once a Year", 42 competitors have registered for this competition. Half of the drivers are new to this event while the other half are drivers who usually take part in such a game. Hence, in this edition it is much more difficult to forecast who the winner and the runner-up will be. Although collision of the cars is the aim of this game, the drivers have spe- cial safety rules to adhere to, to elimi- nate any injury of drivers and marshals on track. The track preparation by ASMK for this particular race togeth- er with the preventive rules for this match which must be respected by all drivers will ensure fun for all specta- tors who follow the Demolition Derby to the end. At the time, the Associa- tion takes all necessary precautions for this to happen. Meanwhile, last weekend the Asso- ciation was also very busy with other events. On Friday December 8 ASMK held the 3rd Honda Motocross Na- tional Championship 2017/2018 event at the Ta' Qali Sports Complex and the results of the motocross are: - The Class A winner is Clayton Camilleri on a KTM motorcycle. Clay- ton was followed in 2nd place by his brother Kyle who also rides a KTM motorcycle. Paul Muscat finished in third place on his Husqvarna motor- cycle while fourth place finisher is Da- vid Dimech on a Honda motorcycle. In Class B James Zahra, riding a Sherco bike, won this class followed by Bernard Sammut on Beta. Third place finisher on a Honda is Brandon Slowe while fourth place was won by young Daniel Inguanez on a 250cc Honda motorcycle. The Veteran Class win- ner is Paul Deguara who competed on a KTM. Paul dominated and won this class while being followed by Gozo Motocross rider Robert Spiteri on his Yamaha motorcycle. Third place fin- isher was Daniel Bonnici on his KTM motorcycle while fourth place finish- er was Andrew Cassar, also riding a KTM motorcycle. The ASMK activities continued on Sunday 10th December 2017 in the 'Tal-Maghlaq quarry limits of Qren- di. Here ASMK organised the second meeting of the WotoMoto 2017/2018 National Enduro Championship with the participation of 20 competitors who are divided into three classes ac- cording to the rider's abilities. During the day we had the following results: Class A winner was Bernard Sammut on a Beta sponsored by WotoMoto. Sammut won this class as well as the overall race with his best lap-time of 5 minutes 57.089 seconds followed by James Zahra on Sherco motorcycle with a lap-time of 5 minutes 58.701 seconds. Third place finisher was Jo- seph Scicluna on his KTM with a lap- time of 6 minutes 4.418 seconds. In Class B George Schembri on a KTM won this class with his best lap- time of 6 minutes 33.557 seconds and followed by Gabriel Muscat riding a KTM with a lap-time of 6 minutes 53.052 seconds. Third placed rider was Clayton Schembri on a KTM with his best lap-time of 7 minutes 5.819 sec- onds. In Class C we saw Kurt Muscat on a Yamaha winning this class with his best lap-time of 10 minutes 17.795 sec- onds. Keith Baldwin on a Beta and Clo- vert Abela on a KTM did not finish the race because of technical problems.
