UNTIL JANUARY 7 The APS Mdina Cathedral Contemporary Art Biennale Annual exhibition of the work of Maltese and international artists who will each develop new work based on this year's theme of 'The Mediterranean: A Sea of Conflict- ing Spiritualities'. UNTIL JANUARY 13 No Minimum Presence Required Exhibition of new work by the Fenêtreproject (Dustin Cauchi, Francesca Mangion) at Malta Contemporary Art, 12, Felix Street, Valletta. Opening hours: 13:00 – 18:00 (Tuesday – Friday); 10:00 – 13:00 (Saturday). UNTIL FEBRUARY 11 White Memory – 1989/2018 Art in Malta and Poland Exhibition curated by Irene Bi- olchini and Marinella Paderni at Spazju Kreattiv at St James Cava- lier, Valletta. The exhibition re- volves around the ties between Malta and Poland and the search for identity in the present – which also represents the promise for the future. White is the colour of pure- ness, but it is also the colour used to cancel, to erase, thus presenting the leitmotiv of this exhibition. Featured artists include: Artists: Victor Agius, Paweł Althamer, Norbert Francis Attard, Ewa Axelrad, Miroslaw Balka, Vince Briffa, Austin Camilleri, Gabriel Caruana, Alicja Dobrucka, Nico- las Grospierre, Magda Skupinska, Mark Mangion, Agnieska Polska, Pierre Portelli, Jósef Robakowski, Raphael Vella, Jakub Woynarows- ki. This project is supported by the Malta Arts Council and the Polish Institute in Rome and endorsed by the Valletta 2018 Foundation. VALLETTA 2018 JANUARY 20 Valletta 2018 Opening Ceremony Valletta 2018's Opening Week draws crowds to the heart of Val- letta with music and entertain- ment, street artists and perform- ers spreading word of the Opening around the capital's streets, ex- hibitions set in diverse venues around the city, open days that re-discover Valletta's fascinating historical spaces, community sto- rytelling events centred around the city's residents and the spaces they use, and much more. It will encompass Valletta's four main squares – St George's Square, St John's Square, Castille Square, and the area around the Triton Fountain – where the Catalan the- atrical group, La Fura dels Baus, blurs the line between audience and performer with outdoor ac- robatics, while ŻfinMalta offer contemporary dance performanc- es. The event will feature digital projections, video art and choral symphony lend the capital a won- drous and magical atmosphere. MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT DECEMBER 30 GawGaw-Du/Monster Celebration Concert at The Funky Monkey, Manoel Island, Gzira. Featur- ing the punk band BILA along with special guests Leona (Cryp- tic Street, nosnow/noalps), Kriz (Beesqueeze), Ben (Eyes to Argus) and more. Resident DJ for the night will be Chris Goa Farrugia. Entrance is at €4. Doors open at 21:00. JANUARY 13-27 Valletta International Baroque Festival Since its launch in 2013, the Valletta International Baroque Festival has treated audiences to a unique event featuring some of the best ensembles on the baroque music scene. Taking as its main venue one of the oldest working theatres in the world, Teatru Ma- noel, this prestigious two-week festival also plays out within many wonderful baroque and histori- cal venues, such as St. John's Co- Cathedral and the Grandmaster's Palace. This year's musical pro- gramme has once again secured some of the best contemporary exponents of Baroque music from the international and local sphere to contribute to the celebration of Malta's capital.
