maltatoday WEDNESDAY 21 MARCH 2018 THIS WEEK 15 WHAT'S ON EXHIBITIONS UNTIL MARCH 23 Ebba von Fersen Balzan Retrospective Retrospective exhibition of works by Ebba von Fersen Balzan, marking ten years since her passing, at the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Valletta. The collection of works on display will include more than 80 creations involving abstract art, landscapes, linographs, neolithic temples and nudes, apart from other styles. A special book has been published for the occasion and a limited collection of prints will also be on sale. UNTIL MARCH 29 Hagraisland Debut solo show by Isaac Azzopardi held at the Malta Society of Arts, Palazzo De La Salle, Valletta. Through the use of construction material, appropriation and rubbing techniques, the show revolves around three main references: Austin Camilleri's installation Stones from 1999, as Maltese contemporary art canon, Anselm Kiefer's ideas about art as alchemy and Malta's changing urbanity. Opening hours are 08:30 – 19:00 (Monday to Friday); 08:30 – 13:30 (Saturday). UNTIL APRIL 21 Except for Access Only Exhibition by artist-architect Tom Van Maldaren at Malta Contemporary Art, Valletta. Malderen presents a series of objects that due to denominations of scale, materiality and context sit somewhere between sculptural objects and architectural models - at a juncture between the field of architecture and that of art. While many of the reflections that have made their way in the exhibition can be traced back to architecture, they feel equally relevant and stimulating when brought into an art context. Opening hours: Tuesday - Friday (13:00 – 18:00); Saturday 10:00 – 13:00. APRIL 4-MAY 2 Terrae Exhibition of works by Victor Agius at Iniala5 Galleries, Old Treasury Street Valletta. Agius examines the formless matter proper to his own experience of the environment – either randomly or carefully selected sites with their distinctive ecological and archaeological features – which all finds its roots in the earth or soil- derived organic materials (raw clay, for instance, beside natural pigments, oils and acrylics). This has allowed him to produce a body of work through which to reflect upon the subject of human existence in general and the limits of his own existence in particular. MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT Piano and Strings Classical music concert at the San Anton Palace, Attard at 19:30.
