maltatoday WEDNESDAY 21 MARCH 2018 17 Events Corporations unite for CSR Day 2018 THIRTEEN socially-responsible cor- porations in Malta joined forces to offer voluntary support for the 17th Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Day, which is organised annually on St Joseph Day (a public holiday). Around 355 staff members from AIS Group, Computime Group, Farsons Group, Forestals Group, FTI Group, GreenPak Co-Op, HSBC Bank Malta, MaltaPost, MEUSAC, Multigas Ltd, NM Group, SEP Malta, and St James Hospital Group dedicated their day to various causes. Earlier in the morning, the par- ticipating companies and their rep- resentatives gathered at the official residence of the President of Malta H.E. Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, who thanked the volunteers for their tangi- ble support to the society. From San Anton Palace, the groups embarked on their sites and began carrying out a range of work, from restoration of dilapidated homes to preparation of hot meals for the dis- advantaged. In no particular order, the chosen causes were: Il-Ballut ta' Marsax- lokk (Marsaxlokk), Ċentru Antida (Tarxien), Richmond Hostel (Qormi), San Blas Therapeutic Community (Żebbuġ), Dar Merħba Bik (Balzan), Aġenzija Sapport residences (Marsas- cala and Mtarfa), Birzebbuga Footbal Ground (Birżebbuġa), tour of Valletta and a private home in Fleur De Lys. Campus Book Festival opens today THE Book Festival on Cam- pus kicks off at 9am today at the University quadrangle. It will be running for three days with back-to-back activities from 9am until 4 pm today and tomorrow. On Friday, the last day of the Festival, activi- ties will go on till late, ending with a concert by local ga- rage bands Cryptic Street and Fuzzhoneys. The programme, which can be downloaded from the NBC website at ktieb.org.mt, in- cludes activities such as read- ings, book launches, talks by experts on variety of academ- ic topics, presentations and interviews with local authors and artists. Jasmin B. Frelih, an author from Slovenia and a winner of the European Un- ion Prize for Literature, is the special guest of this edition of the Festival – he will be lead- ing a workshop on creative writing today and will be tak- ing part in activities during the three days of the Festival. The Festival is set up by Għaqda tal-Malti – Univer- sità and the National Book Council with the intention of providing a platform for pub- lishers and student organisa- tions to promote their prod- ucts and also to contribute to the programme with cultural activities. The publishers par- ticipating in the Festival this year are: Faraxa, Horizons, Midsea Books, EDE Books, Pjattaforma, SKS and BDL. Student organisations have also made their contribu- tion, in particular HoASA, the History of Art and Fine Arts Students' Association, and DESA, the Department of English Students' Associa- tion. Other participants include the University Library, the Department of Maltese with- in G.F. Abela Junior College, Inizjamed and the Depart- ment of Maltese at Malta University. Although the Festival is set up with the aim of reaching out to a mature audience such as university students, all members of the public are in- vited to attend and take part in the activities.
