Malderen presents a series of objects that due to denominations of scale, materialit y and context sit somewhere between sculptural objects and architectural models - at a juncture between the field of architecture and that of art. While many of the ref lections that have made their way in the exhibition can be traced back to architecture, they feel equally relevant and stimulating when brought into an art context. Agius examines the formless matter proper to his own experience of the environment – either randomly or carefully selected sites with their distinctive ecological and archeological features – which all finds its roots in the earth or soil-derived organic materials (raw clay, for instance, beside natural pigments, oils and acrylics). This has allowed him to produce a body of work through which to ref lect upon the subject of human existence in general and the limits of his own existence in particular. PUBLIC TALK TODAY Salvage and Salvation: Bookbindings as Agents Public talk on the art of bookbinding by Professor Nicholas Pickwoad at Lecture Theatre 2, University of Malta, Tal- Qroqq. The making of books in the early modern period was a highly commercial activity and the need to cut costs is evidenced by the widespread use of recycled materials, particularly pieces of parchment, paper and leather salvaged from a myriad of other uses in libraries, archives and daily life. In this way, binders preserved material that had been thrown away or otherwise discarded, much of it of historical interest, some of it of great cultural importance. Professor Pickwoad trained in bookbinding and book conservation with Roger Powell, and ran his own workshop from 1977 to 1989, and has been Adviser on book conservation to the National Trust since 1978. Terrae by Victor Agius Italian singer- songwriter Giungla will be performing at Rock the South
