6 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 19 AUGUST 2018 LISTINGS WHAT'S ON The Summer Carnival Today is the last night of the Summer Carnival 2018. The Carnival will be held at Marsascala promenade just for tonight. The celebrations start at 7pm with a street pa- rade along the promenade in Salini Street. Starting next to the local council, the parade will make its way towards the area known as is-simenta, where there will be dance performances and shows by the members of the respec- tive f loats. The Marsascala Band as will also be taking part in this carnival. MUSIC & ENTERTAINMENT JULY 30 – AUGUST 30 Rock'N Malta Rock 'N Malta will feature various concerts through- out August. Featuring Gogol Bordello and Brodu on 30 July, Julian Marley and The Upsiders, as well as Mana- Tapu on 18 August, Dark Tranquility, Evergrey, and Colourblind on 24 August, and Kaiser Chiefs and Bila on 30 August. MUSIC AND NIGHTLIFE September 1 -2 Sickfest '18 Malta's Alternative / Elec- tronic Summer music fes- tival is back! The event will have five areas, six live bands and 28 DJs. Bands including Fuzzhoney, Kill The Action and Eyes to Argus will be performing. There will also be a silent disco with two simultaneous music chan- nels blasting out tunes on hundreds of wireless head- phones. Get your tickets from their Facebook event at 15 euros or at the door for 20euros. THEATRE August 22 -26 L-Ikla t-Tajba L-Ikla t-Tajba creates the ul- timate community banquet! Through the collaboration of the Valletta 2018 Foundation, feast your eyes, and stomachs on an interactive take on the ultimate Maltese meal fea- turing ingredients from our past, delicacies of today and a weird and wonderful food ex- perience for all audiences to enjoy. After the performance everyone is invited to join a community meal and enjoy a traditional majjallata. Dine on slow-roasted pork with lo- cal grown vegetables and po- tatoes, cooked to perfection, and sip on a glass of wine, homegrown in Gozo, all ca- tered by Ta' Mena. August 31 and September 2 Ahna Refugjati The opera, which is the first Maltese work of its kind, ad- dresses timely concerns in the Euro-Mediterranean region, the human cost of large-scale immigration and the universal theme of loss as a result of political conveni- ence, racism and prejudice. Aħna Refuġjati recounts the story of Eleja, his wife Shari, and their three children aged 20, 18 and 10, who f lee from their war-torn village in Syr- ia after witnessing atrocities during the civil war, in hopes of a better life in Europe. The opera follows the family's struggles with crossing bor- ders, the lack of basic human rights, racism, separation and loss, on a journey moti- vated by hope. September 6-9 Boulevard Teatru Manoel and Teatru Malta join forces to present an adaption of one of Francis Ebejer's greatest theatrical works on the 25th anniver- sary of his death. This new production features leading Maltese actors and danc- ers from ZfinMalta directed by Toni Attard and choreo- graphed by Paolo Mangiola. The play will be performed in Maltese. Tickets can be bought from the Treatru Ma- noel website. SEPT 14 -23 Stitching The banned play Stitching will finally be performed in Malta at the Manoel Thea- tre next September. Anthony Neilson's masterpiece deal- ing with loss will be shown after it was banned for many years, hosted by Unifaun Theatre Production. FESTIVALS AUGUST 24 - 26 Malta Craft Beer Festival 2018 The first ever edition of the Malta Craft Beer Festival will take place in St Elmo on the 24, 25 and 26 of August 2018. With the best craft beer brands on the island, some of the finest street food you can find and the top alternative bands and DJs, this festival is set to become a fixed ap- pointment in your summer calendar. More details can be found on https://www. facebook.com/craftbeerfesti- val.mt/ September 17 - 24 The Bubble 2018 – A Festival of Life The Bubble returns to Mal- ta this September for a week- long festival of music, art and workshops all celebrating the magical essence of life. The non-profit event will be marking its 8th edition this year, once again aiming to spread positive awareness of the environment, the arts and community in a festive and engaging way. And that means 100% of the funds raised from the festival goes to environmental and hu- manitarian causes. Agusut 23-25 Malta Mediterranean Literature Festival 2018 The XIIIth edition of the Malta Mediterranean Lit- erature Festival organized by Inizjamed will be held on Thursday 23, Friday 24 and Saturday 25 August 2018 at Fort Manoel on Manoel Is- land in Gżira at 8.00pm. The pre-Festival events start on Sunday 19 August. Entrance to all events is free. Activities August 20 Night Market at Funky Monkey After the success of their first night market, Funky Monkey is hosting a second edition. The afternoon will be set up with a variety of stalls, with all sort of treasures, a jamming session (hosted by Musical Playground), and authentic Thai food freshly cooked and prepared by the Good Thaimes Kitchen.
