MUSIC AND NIGHTLIFE OCTOBER 3 Cliff Zammit Stevens – 10th Anniversary Concert The hugely-talented and in- ternationally-renowned tenor Cliff Zammit Stevens returns to Malta for his largest solo concert to-date, in a night of unforgettable music in celebra- tion of the 10th anniversary of his career. He will be joined by special guest Ira Losco. The concert will be held for one night only on 3 October 2018, in St George's Square in Val- letta. The concert will also sup- port The Marcy Foundation, which was launched in August this year in honour or Zammit Stevens' mother, who passed away last year. EXHIBITIONS 5 OCTOBER – NOVEMBER 2 Parallel Existences In his long-awaited new exhi- bition, celebrated photographer Alex Attard creates alterna- tive identities for historical, centuries-old documents that were severely damaged during the war, and which have since formed part of the Notarial Ar- chives in Valletta. These never seen before, mangled and dis- torted volumes have lain static, buried in boxes, out of sight, for decades – their reason for be- ing, gone. Parallel Existences will be on show at Valletta Con- temporary in Valletta between 5 October and 2 November 2018. THEATRE UNTIL SEPTEMBER 23 Stitching The banned play, Stitch- ing, will finally be showing in Malta, at the Manoel Theatre next September. Anthony Neil- son's masterpiece dealing with loss will be shown after it was banned for many years, hosted by Unifaun Theatre Produc- tion. Tickets for the 18+ play can be found on the Teatru Ma- nuel Website at 20 euro. SEPTEMBER 28-29 Sfumat Sfumat recounts the story of Alex, in the words and actions of those around him, particu- latly his father Charles, and his daughter Maria. Alex never ap- pears on the play, with the audi- ence forming their own opinion based on what the other char- acters reveal. The production, held at the Salesian Theatre, also marks ten years of the Sale- sian Worship Team. OCTOBER 4-14 US/THEM The animated narrative, 'US/ THEM', which sees brutal ter- rorism coinciding with child- like innocence, is coming to Strait Street. On 1 September 2004 – the first day of school, or Russian 'Knowledge Day' – a group of Chechen terrorists stormed into a school in the small town of Beslan, taking 1,200 hostages. The siege lasted three days. Hostages were con- fined within the walls of the school's gymnasium. The mas- sacre left 334 dead, including 186 children. OCTOBER 5-14 The Jew of Malta This October, the MADC and Teatru Manoel are pro- ducing Christopher Marlowe's classic 1590s play The Jew of Malta. Director Chris Gatt describes the play as a "Dark, hilarious and subversive tra- gi-comedy. The Jew of Malta takes no prisoners as Marlowe cynically dissects a world where politics, greed and the three Mediterranean religions – Catholic, Muslim, and Jew- ish – clash; skewering all three as he weaves a fast-paced story at once tragic, farcical, and ab- surd." FESTIVALS SEPTEMBER 17 - 24 The Bubble 2018 – A Festival of Life The Bubble returns to Malta this September for a week-long festival of music, art and work- shops all celebrating the magi- cal essence of life. The non- profit event will be marking its 8th edition this year, once again aiming to spread positive awareness of the environment, the arts and community in a festive and engaging way. And that means 100% of the funds raised from the festival goes to environmental and humanitar- ian causes. Science in the City is back on September 28 Watch Us/Them from October 4 to 14
