The masterclass will take place on the 1st November from 1.30pm in Saturn 1 and 2 at the Intercontinental Hotel. The masterclass will consist of five active presentations by in- house professionals whereby the audience will be able to interact with the presenters, debate on any hot topics and ask any burn- ing questions which they may have. Josef Mercieca, BDO Malta's Tax and Regulatory Partner, will kick-off with a discussion on Mal- ta's newly established regulatory framework, paying close attention to the different aspects that make up the VFA Act which comes into force that same day. This presentation will also delve into how such frameworks may be utilised by those investors who are looking for the ideal jurisdic- tion to set up in. This will be fol- lowed by a presentation that iden- tifies the potential Tax and VAT benefits enjoyed by Blockchain companies that base their opera- tions out of Malta. After this Sam Spiridonov, BDO Malta's Audit Partner, will be dis- cussing two differing viewpoints on Blockchain technology. To start off with, he will be identify- ing the applicability and disrup- tiveness of DLT on the account- ing and audit industries, followed by the issues faced within indus- try with regards to the regulation and accounting of such practices. Sam will then be joined on stage by David Butcher, BDO UK's Technology and Media Partner (who also forms part of the Lon- don Audit Group within the firm) to discuss the ways in which BDO handles the auditing of clients within the DLT space. Following this, Rakele Gauci, BDO Malta's Risk & Compliance Manager, will delve into the dan- gers of money laundering & fund- ing of terrorism, and what found- ers behind DLT Assets should be focusing on. She will then look into where we are at locally and at EU legislation in terms of the prevention of money laundering and funding of terrorism within the DLT space. The masterclass will include high-level speakers such as BDO Malta's CEO Mark Attard and international members forming part of the BDO Global Network. These talks along with those in at- tendance will stimulate a dynamic exchange of information and ex- periences. The masterclass will conclude with a social network- ing event. BDO Malta to host first Blockchain masterclass THE Malta Business Bureau (MBB) has announced the launch of its new Erasmus+ Knowledge Alliances Project, entitled DIFME – Digital, In- ternationalisation and Finan- cial Literacy Skills for Micro Entrepreneurs. Through link- ing Higher Education Insti- tutions (HEIs) to Businesses across Europe, the project aims to develop a coopera- tive learning model that will strengthen the financial and digital skills of entrepreneurs – enabling them to widen their networks and internationalise. Commenting on this achievement, MBB CEO Joe Tanti emphasised that rapid economic growth has made it crucial for business and aca- demia to come together and address some of the under- lying challenges. He added that, "Following the leading roles that we have assumed in past and ongoing European projects, it is my pleasure to note that the MBB has once again been entrusted with the strategic leadership and implementation of a three- year, Erasmus+ Knowledge Alliances project. Supported by five leading European HEIs and five private bodies, the MBB will strive to en- sure that this project boosts the quality and relevance of higher education, particu- larly within the field of entre- preneurship". Once existing gaps in the skills of entrepreneurs are formally identified, DIFME will set out to develop a set of financial and digital com- petences, adapted to the real needs of the industry. These fundamental competences intend to be integrated in a curriculum and uploaded on an e-learning platform. As the project consortium believes that there is sig- nificant value in enabling entrepreneurs to engage in meaningful dialogue with their peers, DIFME will si- multaneously work towards the creation of an 'SME Hub' that will not only provide en- trepreneurs with access to the e-learning platform, but also promote a long-term partnership between repre- sentatives of academic, edu- cational and business bodies based in different European countries.
