19 COMMERCIAL maltatoday | SUNDAY • 14 APRIL 2019 THE Perfect Mother's Day Gift Fair, one of the most pop- ular events of the Corinthia Palace Hotel's springtime sea- son, returns on Wednesday 1 May 2019. However, given the consist- ently-growing popularity of this event, the fair has out- grown the Corinthia Palace Hotel & Spa's picturesque gar- dens and will therefore move to one of the Corinthia's sister venues – the Petit Marquee at the Malta Fairs and Conven- tion Centre (MFCC) in Ta' Qali. As always, the Perfect Moth- er's Day Gift Fair will see a number of diverse stalls set up for the day – featuring everything from clothing and jewellery to handmade gifts and crafts. Together they will showcase a wealth of crafts- manship by Malta-based com- panies and individuals. Furthermore, the event will also host a number of perfor- mance acts and other activi- ties, including a cookie deco- rating workshop for children and a car wash. With all this on offer, the Fair promises a jam-packed day of shopping, food, and fun activities the whole family will enjoy… and pets are welcome too! Once again, a number of activities – including a raf- fle – will be dedicated to rais- ing funds for the Corinthia Palace's associated charity Beyond the Moon. It is an in- ternational organisation that helps seriously ill Maltese children to enjoy the holiday of a lifetime with their fami- lies. In recent years, the Hotel has raised over €110,000 for the charity, through which 27 Maltese families have benefit- ted from a cost-free, dream va- cation. The Corinthia Palace Hotel's Perfect Mother's Day Gift Fair will take place on Wednesday 1 May from 10am to 6pm at the Petit Marquee, MFCC, Ta' Qali. The perfect Mother's Day gift fair returns THE Emergency Fire and Rescue Unit (EFRU) has or- ganised its yearly Fund Raiser Cycling Tour over the past weekend in Sicily, this time attracting the largest number of cyclists to date. As always, the 2019 tour was spread over a period of two days from Friday 5th to Sat- urday 6th of April, and saw 26 participants challenge their limits whilst cycling close to 300km of undulating terrain and conditions; from Catania to the city of Regalbuto in the province of Enna and back to Catania the next day. As a back-up team, the EF- RU deployed two rescue ve- hicles which roamed with the cyclists during the tour and a rapid response vehicle that was used to travel ahead of the team, marking the planned route and making sure that the chosen roads where safe or otherwise. The first day of the tour was particularly daring for the cy- clists and EFRU back-up team alike since the route around Mount Etna, on the East Coast of Sicily, was hit by dense fog and heavy rain which made it almost impossible for partici- pants to cycle safely without assistance. During the thick of the storm, all the cyclists were grouped by the back-up team and slowly continued en- route in-between the rescue vehicles for protection from oncoming traffic and safety of the same cyclists. Day two was favoured with beautiful weather, sunshine and dry roads such that the participants were able to en- joy the beauty of the Sicilian countryside whilst cycling their way from the chosen Agriturismo in Regalbuto to Catania. Challenges never stopped during this tour as at exactly the 100 KM mark one of the cyclists lost his balance and had an accident which saw him treated on the spot by the EFRU advanced First Aid team before being trans- ported in the units ambulance to a close 'Pronto Soccorso' where he was kept for almost 24 hours of tests and observa- tions. This meant that three EFRU volunteers who formed part of the back-up team backed out of the tour to join the in- jured cyclist to hospital whilst the rest of the team continued with the remaining cyclists making sure of their wellbe- ing and safety till the end of the route. The injured cyclist was thankfully dismissed from hospital and declared fit to travel on Sunday and was seen to by the same EFRU volun- teers who had accompanied him all along this journey till he reached Malta. EFRU Sicily Cycling Tour registers largest participation to date SPRING is in the air and four public gardens in Swieqi, which are providing a much needed touch of greenery in the town, are looking great thanks to Frank Salt Real Es- tate's latest 'Let's Go Environ- mental' initiative, working in conjunction with the Swieqi local council. As of 2019, the company is collaborating with the lo- cal council to ensure that the gardens are well kept for the enjoyment of the Swieqi and Ibrag communities. Works in- clude ongoing irrigation and general maintenance of these lovely gardens. The sponsorship covers Ġnien Esprit Barthet, Ġnien Imħallef Caruana Curran, Ġnien F. X. Ebejer and the Swieqi Civic Centre, providing open spaces in a densely popu- lated area. Frank Salt Real Es- tate hopes that initiatives such as these will go a long way to embellish and improve the en- vironment, making Swieqi a better place to live and work in. The company acknowledges that as a successful member of the business community, it has responsibilities towards the environment and the upkeep of the Swieqi public gardens is not the only project that Frank Salt Real Estate has taken up as part of its Let's Go Environ- mental drive. Recently they have also invested in the af- forestation of the grounds sur- rounding Fort Madliena and are looking for similar areas around Malta and Gozo. Frank Salt Real Estate has also invested extensively to re- duce its own carbon footprint, by reducing the quantity of pa- per used in the offices, making use of recycled products where possible and by introducing appropriate waste separation dispensers throughout its head office and branch network. Frank Salt 'Let's Go Envi- ronmental' committee is also working with different vol- untary and government enti- ties to lessen their operating burden while mitigating their carbon footprint and hopes to announce new big initiatives very shortly.
