maltatoday | SUNDAY • 1 DECEMBER 2019 9 CULTURE THEATRE THIS December Teatru Malta is gearing up for one of their most heart-warming perfor- mance to date, their 2019 pantomime Ħax-Xjuħ which will run between 12 and 15 December at the Metanoia theatre in Luqa. "Ħax-Xjuħ sounded like me the moment I was approached by Sean Buhagiar to discuss the prospect of directing it for Teatru Malta," said director Josette Caiappara. The eccentric pantomime has been entrusted to veter- ans like Tony Cassar Darien who wrote the original script, together with long-time danc- er and teacher Alison White choreographing, and the in- comparable Maestro Paul Abela as music director while the comical "western" set was entrusted to Donald Friggieri. The cast also includes Mal- tese favourites Joe Farrugia id-Dulli the sassy Ħax-Xjuħ dame, wife and fellow actress Veronica Farrugia, Philip Vella, Ray Calleja, Narcy Calamatta, Theresa Gauci and Gwido Fenech amongst other incredible actors and performers. "The production has been a joy to work on" says Ciappara with the auditions for the en- semble cast last August per- haps being the greatest high- light. "We had almost 70 men and women over 60 apply. Most of these men and wom- en have never sung or danced before but have fully commit- ted to their rehearsals in addi- tion to their vocal and dance training proving that you're never too old to try something new," she said. Hax-Xjuh is a laugh out loud western pantomime which boasts a cast made up of an In- dian chief and a giant mouse and that's not even the half of it! Audiences can also expect a series of surprises through- out the show not to mention that all of the cast is over 60. Ħax-Xjuħ is a pantomime for the whole family, and runs between the 12th and 15th of December at Teatru Meata- noia in Luqa. Euro 5 tickets can be purchased from kultu- ra.mt or or more information please call 21220255 or visit teatrumalta.org An eccentric pantomime that is equally heart-warming
