24 maltatoday | SUNDAY • 15 DECEMBER 2019 AUTOOCROSS SPORTS THE Wotomoto Enduro National Championship 2019/2020 continues to- day with kickoff in the Fawwara quarry at 10am. Meanwhile last Sunday the Association organised the second Autocross National Championship 2019/2020 event spon- sored by Pasta Poiatti where 20 competi- tors registered in the Modified or in the Standard Class. During the day's three heats, Andrew Pisani on his Vauxhall Nova won all of the day's Heats and secured his place in the Class A Final Race. Karl Micallef on his Opel Corsa, the Fiat Punto of Noel Zammit, Jean Paul Grech on his Peugeot 106, the Ford Fiesta of Ryan Scicluna and Kurt Aquilina on an Opel Corsa also qualified for this Final race. Right from the start of this final Mi- callef took the helm followed by Pisani and Grech. During the third Lap Micallef with- drew because of a damaged front wheel and Grech took his place with Pisani and Sicicluna following close. The attention turned onto the first two competitors who were running together. In his last lap Grech took the Joker Lap and held his placing. But shortly before the end of the race Pisani took the lead and crossed the Finish Line first, followed by Grech and Scicluna. Fourth place was won by Aquilina and by Micallef. For the Final of Class B the starting line was composed by Justin Buttigieg on an Opel Nova, Ivan Birmingham on a Su- zuki Swift, Noel Vella on a Ford Fiesta, Nicolai Aquilina, Karl Curmi and Gilmor Cauchi all on Opel Corsa cars. From the Start of this nine-laps race Vella was seen to take the lead and hold his placing to the Finish Line. At the Start Vella was followed by Aquilina and by Buttigieg. In the fourth Lap Aquilina's car developed a fault and had to retire while Buttigieg improved his position and still followed by Birmingham. In the last part of the race Birmingham was also forced to retire due to an engine mechanical damage. So the final result stands to de- clare Vella as the winner and followed by Buttigieg and Curmi. Fourth place was won by Cauchi. The Standard Class final competitors were Jerom Peplow on a Kia Avella, Jo- seph Micallef on an Opel Nova and Melvin Buttigieg on his Citroen AX. During the whole race Peplow followed Micallef to the race Finish. The next Cars event is to take place on Sunday 22nd December. On this Special day which is also the last event for the year 2019, the day's programme starts at 10am. The Autocross Heats and Fi- nals finish at around 3pm when ASMK is holding the 24th edition of the Big Car Demolition Derby with 46 cars, starting at 3.30pm.
