The gold coin has a face value of €50, while the silver coin has a face value of €10. This nu- mismatic coin is the first product of the Bank's 2014 coin programme. Charles Camilleri was born on 7 September 1931. He studied music at a very young age and in 1947 he wrote his first significant work entitled 'The Malta Suite'. This composi- tion is an example of how Camilleri incorporated Maltese folk song and music in many of his works, thereby creating a national music iden- tity for Malta. He lived overseas for many years, wrote and composed in Australia, the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States where he composed many of his works. His music, which has been published internationally, ranges from the folk music of his early years to the later abstract and mod- ernist pieces. He died on 3 January 2009, aged 77. The coins were struck at the Roy- al Dutch Mint and bear the Europa Star logo. The obverse of the coins shows the emblem of Malta with the year of issue, 2014. The reverse fea- tures a portrait of Charles Camill- eri. The coins were designed and engraved by the Maltese artist, Noel Galea Bason. The €10 silver coin is of 0.925 fi- nesse and has a weight of 28.28 grams, with a diameter of 38.61 mm. The minting limit is set at 5,000 pieces. The €50 gold coin is of 0.916 finesse and has a weight of 6.5 grams, with a diameter of 21 mm. The total mintage for the gold coin is limited to 1,500 pieces. Both coins are struck to proof quality. The coins may be pur- chased from the counter of the Malta Coins Distri- bution Centre at the main building of the Central Bank of Malta in Valletta. Coins can also be ordered by completing the order form available on the Bank's website. Aimed to create awareness and enhance- ment of the transport, logistics and supply chain industry in Mal- ta and the Mediterranean region, the TransLog Awards 2014 will be recognising the efforts and invest- ments in this industry done by the different stakeholders. "The market opportunities in the Mediterranean region, to- gether with the fierce competition to succeed in the lucrative supply chain and transportation sector, mean that Malta has to deliver an excellence of service that can compete not only locally, but also regionally and globally as well. The TransLog Awards will be acknowledging and highlighting that commitment for the benefit of Maltese companies operating in this sector and industry, and also for the benefit of Malta as a promising centre for a regional transportation, logistics and sup- ply chain hub," Alex Borg, Direc- tor of SSM Group, the organizers of the awards. Borg is an established trainer and consultant in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and has received international recog- nition for his work and achieve- ment in this industry in Malta, London and Dubai. The model of the awards, con- sisting in a number of categories, is based on international bench- marks and values, and geared to- wards performance excellence, using international norms and standards systems. The awards will be judged by a panel of dis- tinguished transport and logis- tics practitioners, academics and business leaders. Winning one of the prestigious awards will gen- erate awareness of that compa- ny's endeavours and show team- members, work-colleagues and all stakeholders that the company is in-step with the very best practice in the Transport, Logistics and Supply Chain thinking and strat- egy. Information kits and participa- tion forms will be available this month. Participation in this first edition will be free of charge. In- terested companies are invited to write to: ops@ssmgroup.org.
