"Emirates and Taipei began their partnership in 2003 when Emirates Skycargo launched freighter services from Dubai. I am proud that we have been able to increase our commit- ment and begin daily, non-stop pas- sengers services," said Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive, Emirates Airline & Group. "Dubai and Taipei are very similar, both are important trading hubs and today's link will help to build on bi- lateral trade. We have been working hard to promote Taipei across our network and I am confident that the influx of business and leisure pas- sengers will continue to grow," added Sheikh Ahmed. Emirates' Taipei service is operated by a Boeing 777-300ER, equipped with eight luxurious private suites in First Class, 42 lie-flat seats in Business Class, and generous space for 304 pas- sengers in Economy Class. In-flight passengers enjoy gourmet cuisine in all classes, served by Emirates' mul- tinational cabin crew of over 132 na- tionalities, including Taiwanese. Taipei, home to nearly seven million people, is an economic and cultural centre with renowned sights, attrac- tions and a myriad of shopping op- tions. The destination is famous for producing and exporting electronics, textiles, plastics and rubber, optical and photographic instruments and chemicals. As a tourist there is plenty to do in Taiwan, with eight national parks and 13 national scenic areas visitors can enjoy trekking in the magnificence of the cliffs at Taroko Gorge; taking a ride on the Alishan Forest Railway or hiking up to the summit of Northeast Asia's highest peak, Yu Mountain. Emirates now operates services to 141 destinations in 80 countries from Dubai. The papers were presented and dis- cussed during a conference held in February last year at Simonds Far- sons Cisk Brewery. Considered as the first initiative in Malta to tackle this complex sub- ject in an open forum, Approaches to Industrial Heritage: What works? was jointly launched by the Farsons Foundation Chairman Mr Bryan A. Gera and the Pro-Rector of the Uni- versity of Malta Prof Joe Friggieri, in the presence of the Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government and Culture José Herrera and Si- monds Farsons Cisk Chairman Mr Louis A. Farrugia. On 1 February 2013, The Farsons Foundation in collaboration with the University's Department of the Built Heritage within the Faculty for the Built Environment, hosted a one-day conference focusing on the diverse approaches which could guide the preservation and presen- tation of industrial heritage in Mal- ta, and more particularly that held by Simonds Farsons Cisk plc. The Foundation Chairman Bryan A. Gera said: "One of The Farsons Foundation's objectives is to con- tribute, preserve, maintain and make better known Malta's Her- itage. Last year's conference on Industrial Heritage and this new publication fall right within the Foundation's mission. We augur that they serve to stimulate further appreciation, research and develop- ments on Malta's industrial herit- age." Co-edited by Professor JoAnn Cas- sar and Dr Reuben Grima from the Faculty for the Built Environment at the University of Malta, the publica- tion features 15 contributions. These have been penned by Mr Timothy Ambrose, John C. Betts, Profes- sor JoAnn Cassar, Mario de Marco, Louis A Farrugia, Michael Farru- gia, Bryan A Gera, Professor Robert Ghirlando, Reuben Grima, José A Herrera, James Licari, Joseph Magro Conti, Ray Polidano, Professor Alex Torpiano, and Godwin Vella. University of Malta Pro-Rector Prof Joe Friggieri said: "This publication focuses on an important aspect of our culture. It shows why the indus- trial heritage matters to us and why we should invest in its preservation." Louis A Farrugia said that the pro- fessional contribution of the panel members and participants contrib- uted to make last year's conference a success. "Following the positive feedback received, we pursued the idea of drawing on the workings of the conference and recording them in a publication. From a uniquely novel conference that we organised last February, we are today marking another milestone in the history of Simonds Farsons Cisk plc with this new publication. As a company we want to preserve and treasure our heritage and most importantly share it with the community." José Herrera said: "The govern- ment cannot be the sole operator of the vast quantities of cultural herit- age material that exists in Malta. The conference and publication about industrial heritage are a step in the right direction. Through its agencies and legislative powers, the Govern- ment has to be one of the main insti- gators to set the framework, however government needs the help of the private sector, working hand in hand to create best practices and to give direction." The publication is available on re- quest through an email to sfc@far- sons.com against a donation of €7. "The combination of our proposi- tions together with our extensive integration skills, Omnichannel, is proving very compelling. Addition- ally we have a strong pipeline of opportunities for our own solution (Dynamics) for Membership organi- sations." Moreover, Crimsonwing entered into a strategic agreement with Megabyte Limited, to take over their portfolio of clients operating on Mi- crosoft based enterprise solutions.
