Tarxien went close to scoring in the first half when Carlos Hevia Menendez hit the crossbar with his shot in the 20th minute. Sliema managed to take the lead in the 63rd minute when Michael Mifsud 's powerful shot from out- side the area beat goalkeeper Sean Mintoff. Mifsud almost doubled the score in the 79th minute but he was de- nied by the woodwork. Sliema doubled their lead in the 81st minute when Fabio Mangi- acasale beat goalkeeper Sean Min- toff with his shot. With this victory Hibernians move a hefty 13 points clear after Pieta defeated Birkirkara 4-3. Floriana were hoping for a better result after winning two matches from their last three games. In fact they went close to opening the score just after two minutes of play when Vito Plut's shot scraped past the post. Just two minutes later, however, Hibernians took the lead when, off a corner by Clayton Failla, Bjorn Kristensen headed the ball towards Edison Luis dos Santos who then beat goalkeeper Valerio Senatore with his shot from close range. Hibernians doubled their lead in the ninth minute. Off a cross by Jo- han Bezzina, Edison Luis dos San- tos passed the ball to Jorge Pereira da Silva who then easily scored from close range. Hibernians were in total control of the match and made it 3-0 in the 42nd minute. Floriana's Douglas Felipe Cobo Moreira lost the ball to Clayton Failla just outside the area and the latter had his first at- tempt blocked by goalkeeper Vale- rio Senatore, but off the rebound Failla made sure he found the back of the net. Five minutes into the second half, Hibernians made it 4-0. Bjorn Kristensen served Edison Luis dos Santos inside the area and the Brazilian served the ball to Jorge Pereira da Silva who then went on to beat the Floriana goalkeeper with a powerful shot. In the 65th minute Hibernians made sure they took home all the points when off a freekick by Clay- ton Failla, Andrew Cohen headed the ball past goalkeeper Valerio Senatore.
