The league will be of twenty over games. Krishna won the toss and elected to bat first. Frank Spiteri and Matt McKeon opened the batting. Spiteri after a slow start ended top scoring with forty three runs which included three fours and two sixes which were consecutive. Spiteri retired after facing thirty balls (local rule). McKeon who is not noted on being a fast scorer of runs put that thought aside scoring twenty runs from fifteen balls, unfortu- nately he was run out after a huge mix up. Tim Wheeler was bowled after making one run and will be down in the Malta Cricket His- tory as being Mike Caruana's one thousandth wicket (these have come over a period of twenty seven years in all formats of the game in Malta). Chris Naudi who seemed very keen on practicing the switch hit actually made twenty two runs when he elected not to play it. Joy Ghoseroy batted well for twenty three runs. Daniel Galea chipped in with two runs not out in the end. Unfortunately the Krishna bowling was not up to scratch and gave away thirty six extras. Melita totalled 147 runs. Justin Farrin Thorne was the only other wicket taker with two for Krishna. Amaz- ingly Krishna used nine bowlers. In reply the Krishna batsmen struggled with Nowell Khosla be- ing the main batsman which made any impact on the board making thirty nine runs. Ravi Sharma made eighteen, Amal Arajans four- teen runs, Adam Krishna thirteen runs and a further four batsmen under ten runs each. Extras were eighteen in the total of 133 runs. For Melita Mark Clayton took two wickets, while Frank Spiteri, Joy Ghoseroy and Gordon Hewitt took a wicket each. Next Saturday after the Sunoco Cricket Academy (9:00 am till 10.30am), the Malta Cricket As- sociation are holding a Cricket Open day at the Marsa Sports Club Cricket ground from 11.00am till 4:00pm. This activity is being held in conjunction with Soli- darjetà bl-Isports 2014, L-Istrina 2014, Sports Coordinating Team tal-Malta Community Chest Fund. This is perfect opportunity for you to come and learn and play cricket.
