maltatoday, Sunday, 28 June 2015 News Michelle Muscat swims Gozo channel for charity Michelle Muscat, wife of Prime Minister Joseph Muscat yesterday completed her char- ity swim, from Gozo to Malta in aid of the Marigold Foundation and the Malta Special Olympics team. Braving the choppy seas and Force 5 winds, as well as physi- cal exhaustion, Muscat made it to shore in cirkewwa just before 6pm, where her husband and daughters were waiting for her. Upon reaching comino, Mus- cat was joined by swimmers from the Malta Special Olympics. Muscat is understood to have been training for several months, in preparation for the endeav- our. The swimmers had been shad- owed by an AFM search and res- cue launch for a portion of the crossing. The Marigold Foundation's purpose is to raise awareness of the challenges faced society re- lating to social behaviour, health issues, special needs and educa- tion. Donations to the foundation can be made via BOV mobile at 79639556 or BOV account 40023325450 Maltese cruise ship collides with tanker near Turkey The Maltese registered passenger ship celestyal crystal yesterday collided with a Marshall islands registered oil tanker off the coast of Gallipoli, Turkey. The ship was on a cruise from la- vrio to istanbul with 853 passengers on board when it collided with the STi Pimlico at about 3:26pm in the North exit of the Dardanelles Strait Traffic Separation Scheme. Both ships reported structural damage and initial reports indicate that the STi Pimlico has reported a breach in one of her cargo tanks with some oil seeping into the water. however, the Marine Safety in- vestigation Unit is informed that the passengers on the Maltese ship and the crew members on board both ships are safe and in good health. Transport Malta said in a state- ment that, since Saturday early morning, officials from the Marine Safety investigation Unit and the Merchant Shipping Directorate have been in constant contact with the international Safety Managers of the passenger ship and the flag State Administration of the Mar- shall islands.
