21 Sport maltatoday, WEDNESDAY, 27 APRIL 2016 FOOTBALL FORMULA 1 ATHLETICS Leicester's fairy tale saddles bookmakers with biggest loss in Premier League history THE bookmaking industry faces its biggest loss in Premier League history with Leicester City just one win away from clinching a shock first title, major bookmak- er William Hill said on Tuesday. So unexpected was their ti- tle chase that William Hill had quoted Leicester as 5,000-1 out- siders at the start of the season. Now the loss to bookmakers stands at some 10 million pounds ($14.55 million), William Hill said in a statement. A man from Guildford, Eng- land stands to earn the highest individual payout after he wa- gered 75 pounds at 1,500-1 just a few weeks into the campaign, it said. He has not cashed out and so now stands to win 112,500 pounds. In total, William Hill face a fi- nal payout of a little over three million pounds if Leicester beat Manchester United at Old Traf- ford on Sunday. "We stand to lose a small for- tune if Leicester do what every- body must now be expecting them to do. 5,000-1 is the biggest priced winner in betting histo- ry!" William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly said. Garmin Ocean Lava Malta 113km Triathlon finds a new home Race venue moves to Coast Road, Bahar ic-caghaq AFTER calling Birzebbuga its home for nearly a decade, the tenth edition of the Garmin Ocean Lava Malta 113km triathlon moves to a new base this year. Scheduled to be held on Sunday 15th May, the Bahar ic-Caghaq Coast Road has been chosen as venue for this year's race and com- bines all the necessary ingredi- ents for a challenging route that includes flat stretches, undulating hills and steep turns which require a strong focus by those taking part. Thanks to the support of the Malta Tourism Authority the race will welcome athletes from Slo- venia, The Netherlands, United Kingdom and Italy. A strong Mal- tese participation will see a good mix of familiar and new faces join the foray. "It is very encouraging to see the growth of this race. This year has been full of milestones - we have joined the international brand Ocean Lava, we will introduce electronic timing, we are celebrat- ing ten years and once again it has been designated as a National Championship race by the Malta Triathlon Federation" commented Charlie Demanuele, Race Founder and Director. "We are also pleased to see a number of athletes mov- ing up from relay participation last year, to full distance this year. This reiterates our belief that this race is a great opportunity to test one's performance in endurance racing, building up gradually as they progress in the sport". The Race will kick off on Sunday 15th May at 6:30am with a 1.9k swim in Palm Beach, Bahar ic- Caghaq, followed by a 90km cycle – consisting of 7 loops of approxi- mately 13km each along the Coast Road, heading up to Pembroke and going all the way to Salina. A 21km run will complete the distance wherein athletes will run three loops of 7km each from the tran- sition area in Palm Beach towards Salina. Participation in the race is either on an individual basis, where ath- letes undertake the full distance of 113kms or through relay partici- pation which sees three athletes teaming up to undertake one of the three disciplines. "The Malta Triathlon Federa- tion is pleased to have once again designated this race as the Na- tional Long Distance Champion- ships once again. Previous years' success prove that such races aid the growth and development of triathlon, especially in the endur- ance category", said Cyprian Dalli, President of the Malta Triathlon Federation. This year the Race will also see the introduction of electronic tim- ing. The ARRTS Timing System will use a transponder and tim- ing points at transition and finish are connected wirelessly and will ensure accurate timing for each athlete. The Garmin Ocean Lava Malta 113k triathlon is once again being supported by Garmin, represented in Malta by Medcomms Ltd., Go & Fun, The Cyclist, Urban Jungle, Malta Tourism Authority, emvi- gee pr & marketing. The Race is sanctioned by the Malta Triathlon Federation and logistical and time- keeping assistance is being provid- ed by Agones SFC. Athletes are being invited to register by not later than Fri- day 13th May, when Race Brief- ing will take place. Detailed information about the race can be found on www.ocean- lavamalta.com or via email on info@oceanlavamalta.com I feel stronger with each day - Alonso MCLARENHONDA'S Fernando Alonso says he feels stronger with each passing day as he prepares for his second Grand Prix after being cleared to return from injury. Alonso suffered a pneumothorax and broken ribs in his high speed crash in Australia, and was re- placed by Stoffel Vandoorne for the following Bahrain round. After follow-up checks, and a lengthy delay, Alonso was allowed to get back behind the wheel at the third round in China, where he de- scribed the pain as "manageable". Another fortnight on, Alonso has noted solid progress, and is eager to see where he stands when the Rus- sian Grand Prix gets under way at Sochi on Friday. "With each day I feel stronger since my accident, and I can't wait to get back in the cockpit again on Friday and see what we can do," Alonso explained. Alonso expects another close bat- tle in the midfield this weekend. "It doesn't feel like it's been too long since we last came to Sochi, but I'm looking forward to compar- ing last year's car performance with the MP4-31's," he said. "Our car feels very positive, and our progress is encouraging, but I hope we can achieve the potential we can see in our package and put in a promising performance on Sunday, which is when it all counts. "It'll definitely be a tricky race – competition in the midfield is very tough, and a lot of the teams are looking pretty strong, with solid reliability. "We had a smooth weekend relia- bility-wise in China and we're defi- nitely learning a lot race-by-race, so I'm hopeful we can have a stronger result in Sochi. "This race is particularly hard on fuel, so along with the tyre strategy there'll be a lot of elements to man- age."
